Question for "Encyclopedia Draconis" (that ancient tome of all things WWII ): what was the primary role of these things?

Your wish is my command...
Primary role was as a tank recovery vehicle.
It could tow up to a Mk IV on its own, but they had to hook two of em' up to tow Panthers and Tigers.
Also used to tow the SdAH 116 trailer (Sonderanhanger ;D) used for transporting tanks.
Btw, a little less of the ancient please.

It's a (captured) Belgian gun tractor. Can't remember its designated name... The book I have it in is at the bottom of the pile in the garage They also made a slightly larger version that had room for a four man gun crew. It had sides that folded down to form seating for two. I'll see if I can dig up a pic of it.
