Greenacre Gamers Presents
Random Alliance
31st July 2010
'My Enemies enemy is my friend'
or something like that.
This tournament will use that previous slice of awesome in order to give it some context but really it is just a justification for the random craziness that will be 'Random Alliance'.
Some people may argue that not every race in the 41st millenium has the ability to put aside their differences in order to battle a common enemy but I really do not care. This event will see some very odd alliances indeed or it wont. Some alliances may not work or maybe all of them will. There could be some great synergies between the mash ups but chances are there wont be.
All the above may not make sense or maybe it does.
So where is all this going?
With the recent great success of Killteam 2010 behind the Greenacre Gamers the next event was planned before Killteam had even finished. Within a matter of five minutes Random Alliance was born.
Random Alliance will see players put together 1200pt army lists without any restriction outside of the Force Organisation Chart. These players will rock up and before each game will have their team mate drawn at random. This could form some very interesting combinations of armies.
A players overall score for the tournament will be determined by how well their impromptu teams went. The score a team gets for their games is given to the individual and all the individuals scores are added up for their battle points total.
There will be 4 games with each having a 2 hour time limit (this will be decided after a few playtest games) or 6 turns, whatever comes first.
Missions will be varied with each game having dual secret missions ensuring each player has a specific goal whilst hopefully still adding support to their team mate.
Oh, almost forgot about price.
$12
Same souvineers as before, same winning categories.
This event is open to all who wish to take part!
Games
Four games will be played and these games will have a six turn two hour time limit with penalties for players unable to get their games finished ontime.
There is a specific pregame phase that is in place to ensure as much mystery as to which players have chosen which mission. The phase has a number of steps that must be followed in order. These steps will be written down on your tournament sheet.
1. Each player informs their opponents which model is their armies commander.
2. Each player places an objective on the table. These can not be placed within 12 inches of a table edge or 12 inches of another objective.
3. One of the players places a marker to indicate the centre of the table.
4. Each player chooses their mission from the list of six missions. Remember there are only four games and you can only choose a specific mission once. Your team mate is allowed to know what mission you are playing (it’s actually encouraged as it is a team event). Although your team mate can not fulfill your chosen missions objective they can help you by preventing your opponents from foiling it.
5. Deploy and rolling who is first as per the regular rules.
During gameplay at the beginning of each of your turns before making any action you tell your opponents one of the missions you are NOT trying to achieve. At the beginning of turn five you tell your opponent which missions you ARE trying to achieve. This means that at the start of turn five your opponent will know which of the missions you are playing and can have a go at trying to prevent its success.
Missions
1. Recon: Get a scoring unit within 6 inches of your opponents table edge. If you manage this you score a point for your team.
2. Objectives: Hold more objectives than your opponents. If you hold more objectives than your opponent you score a point for your team.
3. Control the centre: Have a scoring unit within 6 inches of the centre of the table. 1 point for your team if you do.
4. Denial: Prevent one of your opponents (choose before the game) from achieving their objective. 1 point if you do.
5. Assassinate: Take out your opponents commander. Choose your opponent before the battle. One of your models must perform the killing blow on the commanders model in order for you to be successful. 1 point if you do.
6. Take Ground: This is a table quarters mission so you succeed by holding table quarters and preventing your opponent from denying them.
Scoring
Your team scores points for completing their chosen missions. How well you have done depends on how many points you scored (max 2) and how many your opponents have scored.
Major Victory: 2-0
Minor Victory: 2-1 or 1-0
Draw: 2-2, 1-1, 0-0
Minor Loss: 0-1 or 1-2
Major Loss: 0-2
(first number your score and second your opponents)
Battle Points
An individuals BP’s for a game is worked out by how well their team has done. Effectively your teams BP’s are your BP’s and at the end of the game you write this on your tournament sheet in order to keep a log of how well you are doing.
Major Victory: 10
Minor Victory: 7
Draw: 5
Minor Loss: 4
Major Loss: 3
Games not finished by their time limit will see the game being stopped once the current action has been completed and scores tallied with the following penalties:
-1 BP for the winner
-2 BP for the loser
-2 BP if the game is a draw
This should prevent players trying to draw out the game for a more preferable outcome.

There is 20minutes free time between the games in order for you to manage your army aswell as fill out your results etc. Smokers, this is the best time to accommodate your addiction.
Afterparty
The 31st also happens to be my 31st birthday and I can not think of a better way to celebrate such an event than with a 40k tournament and then an afterparty back at my place. All participants in Random Alliance are free to come back to my place afterwards for an evening of drinking and stuff.
Chances are good that there will be a keg present but one keg will only go so far so make sure you bring adequate alcohol to supplement your drinking.
I have a large shed which should be able to accommodate anyone wishing to crash at my place for the night so if you are prone to sleep feel free to bring a swag as no bedding will be provided.
There will be snacks and probably impromptu poker as my housemates are poker fiends. Drinking games will also be afoot.
There will probably be bacon and eggs for breakfast too!
