DREWPOCALYPSE
Sunday 5th of September was the day that Movie nights foundations shook as the Greenacre Gamers held a massive game of Apocalypse. The game was held to see off one of the GG's own, Drew as he heads off on a real deployment to some far off land.
In the past I have done some pretty big write ups for the games I have held but this time I want to put some of the onus on the players who are encouraged to tell their own tales of slaughter and dismay. What I will do is post a large selection of photos as well as a brief rundown as to what happened at each objective finishing off with the games statistics.
Objective 1 The Goliath Mountain Range.
All models in this mountain range (represented by the hill sections on the Realm of Battle Table and a few additional hills) with an Ordinance Weapon could double their ranges. The bad side started with a majority of the mountain range in their control and although the Imperial and Tau alliance tried to take this range back from the forces of evil all they could do in the end was contest this objective.
(Before Catastrophic)
(after...)
Objective 2 Bastion 'Troubadour'.
Deployments from both sides were fairly light in this section of the table meaning the Allied Good were pretty safe here. Evil had their sights elsewhere but did not leave it completely unnoticed as they deployed a HEIROPHANT BIOTITAN to run amok. This Bastion took quite a bit of punishment from super heavy attacks throughout the game to finally be assaulted by the Heirophant in the last phase of the game only to be shaken.
(The tree underneath the Biotitan is actually a vortex grenade we dubbed 'Natures Wrath'...)
Objective 3 Bastion 'Bellows'.
There was quite a lot of focus on this objective early in the game building up to a crescendo in the final turn. To be honest I did not get a good look at what was happening in this area as so much stuff was happening right next door although I am pretty sure the forces of evil wrestled this from the allies control.
(Pictures for this will be under the Portal Section as they were right next to each other)
Objective 4 Comms Relay Station.
This started off in the hands of the bad guys who were able to reroll reserves as long as they held it. This objective was flanked by two stompas at the start of the game and held by a number of infantry squads. At around the mid point of the game the allies noticed it was lightly defended and deployed a unit of Terminators. The evil side reacted swiftly and sent 60 odd hormogaunts to fight it out. Hormogaunts with poisoned attacks....
Objective 5 Portal.
This portal started off in the hands of the good guys who did about everything they could do to stop it falling into the hands of the evils players for should it fall the evil players could from that point use it as a deployment zone for reserves. This was tactically advantageous as it would allow the forces of evil instant access to the city.
The initial defense was rather light with 2 superheavies, a unit of Ogryns and two other pieces of armor deployed in close proximity. A unit of SM devastators were deployed in the nearby bastion helping to bolster defenses. Reserves were quickly deployed in the vicinity as the evil side started bearing down on this objective.
Chaos Spacemarines deployed wide of this objective to help take out some of the armor as several units of 'Renegade Dark Angels' (aka the Fallen) drop podded almost on top. It really looked like the good guys would be able to hold off the enemy until one of the nearby super heavies went catastrophic wiping out 90% of the defenders in the area. A few turns later would see a random Tyranid Spore taking away the last of its defenses and the Portal fell to chaos allowing them to bring in a large contingent of Daemons and a Rokkin Rolla Stompa through the portal.
This single act probably put an end to the Imperials hopes of holding the cities outside defenses.
(Before...)
(After)
Objective 6-11 The City Buildings.
Strangely enough the only parts of the city to fall were the ones destroyed between things going Cataclysmic and a rampaging Roller Stompa. Several buildings were destroyed by the end of the game and the ones left were held or contested by the good guys.
It would be too hard to detail all the epic fighting that centered around these objectives so I'll leave that to the players to share but I will say a moral victory will go to the good guys for retaining what was left of the city.
Final thoughts
this like past games of Apocalypse was an absolute ripper to run. so much stuff happened that it really was difficult to get a full picture of the mass amounts of carnage that took place. We had super heavies going Catastrophic/Cataclysmic, Heroes standing firm against the odds, Buildings reduced to rubble and random models doing more than they ought to be able to do.
Thanks to the players for putting on a great fight and sticking it out for a full 11 odd hours on a Sunday afternoon/night. It was a long fight but a good one.
Thanks to Movie Nights for allowing us to trash the back room with all manner of drinking containers and fast food wrappers.
Thanks to the models who took an absolute insane amount of abuse on the table top.
Thanks to the tempers for not getting too flared!
Future Apocalypse Games
More buildings have been ordered as the forces of good no doubt want to continue defending the city as the fight makes its way to the heart.
Also Armorpocalypse will be taking place in a few months more on that later!

Favorite Unit/Event
1. Rokkin Rollin Stompa. This Warmachine chewed up a massive line along the defenders table edge destroying two objective buildings.
2. Catastrophic Explosions. these two explosions amounted to quite a respectable death toll of 160+ models killed as well as some defense lines and an objective building.

4. Bastion number 2. Came under a lot of fire in the last turn and an assault from a Heirophant Titan and came away shaken but no stirred.
