[Mildura] Doubles Tournement: Interest

We had a crack at a 2 on 2 game today at the Dice and Deck.
We went a little larger than what the tournament will be (2500 a side, 1250 each player) Daniel B fielded Necrons whilst I fielded my Orcs (an unlikely pairing but legal in the apoc ally chart) we played against Mike T and Mouse who both fielded Daemonhunters.

Was a great game and turned out being a draw!

We used a mission from 5th ed rules, take and hold utilising 3 points along the middle of our 8x4 table. We changed the rules so you only had to be on the base of the terrain to be holding or contending it. The terrain pieces were about 6 inches round.

Turn 6 of the game was the crucial one. the Daemon hunters had no scoring units left and were stranded on the right of the table so held no objectives while I had a single Orc Nob holding the objective on the far left of the table.

I had tried to place my nob so it was hidden from the Vindicare Assassin who was sniping from a far away hill. A Grey Knight Dreadnaught moved forward its six inches in the hope of getting a shot off at the Nob. From its position it could see past 2 trees and through a crack in the rocky outcrop and draw a line to my Nobs Right hand KNUCKLES!!!

The shot ran true and I failed my cover save killing the Nob!!!

It was an insane game. By the end of turn 6 all that remained of my army was 1 Deffcopta with 1 wound!

The Grey Knights had 5 terminators.... Still not enough VP's for the win!!

Anyways the game has drawn more interest in your tournament and you should be seeing 3-4 teams coming up for it from here!

Haha awsome. Around how long did the game take? If we can get enough people gaming fast we might be able to raise the point limit.

We just need to play more and know what our armies are to play faster we should be able to do it by then.

Hmm yeah i guess, we'll see how people go over the next couple of weeks.

We did it in pretty much exactly 2 hours and we were stuffing around a little bit aswell. However there was 40yrs gaming experience between us and we all know our armies pretty well.

I definately thing that 900pts each player is very doable in a 2 hour game limit. All people need to do is get to know their army well and have confidence in the fact that they know their own stats. You guys really should invest in army builder and chuck it on someones laptop. It costs about $50 a year and is constantly updated and has many games system built into it.

You make your list in a drag and drop way, add all the wargear then print it out. Has all your units stats, weapon stats and gives other cool stats on army composition, model count etc.

It really does get rid of the whole looking through your codex for the page for the stat you want or special rule etc. Its all presented on about 2 pages!

It really will speed up your gaming.

Ive said it once and ive said it again we dont have the internet at the hall we meet in and you need the net to run it in anything other than demonstration mode. Blacktemplar has a copy.
Ill think about the point increase.

It works fine on my computer with the internet not connected....
Restarted my comp with the network cable detached, went into army builder, bashed out a quick 750pt Nurgle list and saved it....

Yeah but it has to be connected to register the copy. in this case we loaded the copy onto max's laptop but it couldnt register unless we had the internet

So you cant organise it to get the laptop to a place with the internet for the sole purpose of registration?

I dont know probably can, its just not always there since its brought by one of the members. Ill see about it tommorow night.

I am less so since i have to organise and cant play. However ill do up a "gimp" list incase numbers are odd, so the fangs might just get to be bared.

Simpson are I are teaming up for it . We had a practice game and that went well, 1500 a side, it took a while though becaus eit was my first game, with exeperienced gamers it shouldnt take as long.

Im still not entirely decided wether to make it 750 or 900, im leaning towards the former however. Final decision will be in the official announcement bla dea bla bla post tommorow

I am all for 900 points but then there will probably only be 3-4 games in the time alotted.
750 will allow for more games at the expense of army selection...

Either way is good, 6 one way, half a dozen the other.

I think ill just go with 750, if anything i hope it will make teams plan their armies more carefully so that they have the right mix of units to fill the various roles.
