Those of you who made it to the Dice and Decks November Apocalypse Event will have heard the announcement of Februaries Absolutely Astoundingly Huge Apocalypse Game!!
November saw 30 odd thousand points of Warhammer 40,000 armies but in February I want to see this DOUBLED!
Thats right!
You heard correctly... 60,000 points minimum!
How will this monster of an idea be achieved?
With much planning on my part and a huge amount of cooperation on yours.
I will organise the logistics of such a massive undertaking and sort all the planning side out all I need you guys to do is be free on the weekend of February the 28th and 1st March and be prepared to blast the living bejeebus out of each other!
The entry fee is $5
Besides the details that have been revealed so far in this post the only other details I can give you at the moment are as follows:
The playing area will be DOUBLE the area of last time!
MINIMUM!
Thats about 200 square feet of playing surface!
And that does not include the Bridges or Battle Barge (more on that later)
The table will be two sets of 24 X 4 tables set along each other with about a 2.5 foot gap in between them. Straddling this gap will be 3-4 bridges.
Each side will have a deployment area of 24 X 4 Feet (so now there is no excuse of running out of table space during deployment.)
One side of the board will be City Ruins and will be fairly thick with them. This side of the board will belong to the smallest allied force as the greater cover save will aid them somewhat (well until the buildings are destroyed from big gun fire!)
All units and vehicles that operate on a flying, anti grav, warp jump or jump move can make a one off move across the gap. This may take them well beyond their normal move distance but I am sure the armoury will have given such units the capabilities as a tactical foresight.
Should we get more than 30,000 points a side on the table then there will be deployed a Battle Barge which takes the shape of a 6 X 4 table with 3 small rooms in the center each holding the targeting system of an Orbital Bombardment Relay. Units in control of this relay can fore go their shooting and instead make one immediate Orbital Bombardment on the Main table with the following profile:
Heavy Orbital Bombardment St 9, Apoc Barrage 6 (does not scatter)
or
Lance Bombardment St D, Apoc Blast (Always Scatters 2D6' not modified for BS)
There will be the usual time restrictions on Movement, Shooting and Assaults but these will be presented in due time (likely to be 1 hour per side for a FULL turn 20 mins Movement, 20 mins Shooting and 20 mins Assault)
The game will take place over 2 days being 6 hours Thats 3 full turns a day meaning the game will last a full 6 turns.
Feel free to construct new data sheets for this event (I know I will be for city defense arrays etc) just post your ideas here for people perusal and discussion.
One more thing... Although we have lots of scenery (I shall add my own Cityfight into the mix etc) we will need some purpose built pieces so if anyone can help in that regards let me know and I will hit you up with a project (or even just come up with something on your own!)
Anyways put this in your calendar if you are interested in taking part in the biggest single game the Riverland has ever seen (possibly the biggest game ever played in SA!)
NEW NEWS!
I am allowing people to take armies of up to what ever size they want!
As there are restrictions to how long you can take for each phase there is no chance that the game will slow down due to people fielding 1000000points etc. This makes it more likely that we will reach our rather impressive goal of 60000 points!
Unfortunately with armies of such size on the battlefield and there being restrictions for each phase here are a following tips and tricks to help you get the most from your army:
Deploy the majority of your army in one area. This will help lower the amount of time you spend moving from one unit to the next.
Have a offense and defence force. Split your army in two and deploy one forward and keep the other back. You will do the majority of your movement with half your force at the front and keep the rest sitting back in a defensive position holding your sides objectives.
Share the load. If someone has already finished their movement, shooting or assaults then get them to control a portion of your army. Its your army so give them orders what to do with it!
Another thing everyone can do to keep the game running at a fast pace is to really cooperate with your enemy. No, I do not mean double cross your team mates but rather watch their rolls. Sometimes multiple enemies want to shoot at the same player. While your team mate is resolving the phase with another player (especially shooting) you can watch dice rolls against another of his units. Just note down how many saves he needs to make on a piece of paper (or mark with dice) and then when they are finished with his other units he can get around to making his saves.
This takes a lot of honesty though guys so please keep it such (I know you will as you are a good bunch)
