Stumbled across a book in my collection that I thought was worth mentioning - "Underground" by Suelette Dreyfus. It's about the 80's hacking scene, and follows the story of a few hackers, including a prominent Melbourne hacker from the international scene. It's available as softcover, but because it's about hackers, and for hackers, it's also available as a free download from the website. Excellent book. I Foumd myself having to remind myself it's a true story, not some sort of 90's sci-fi fiction. www.underground-book.com/Why are you reading this far down? Go download it! (Then find a laser printer that you can spit all 300 odd pages out on... or download the audiobook version and whack it on an MP3 player...)

Then there was the Deverry series by Katherine Kerr (as mentioned by Ash). There have been three 'acts' of four books each (12 so far!, with 2 more still being written to finish the entire story). Fantastic reading. Full credit to the author on keeping up with who relates to who and how! Just finished 'The Shadow Isle' in this series (book 14 of 15 in the series). The last book is due out this year and it'll be a good'un! Can't wait Out of curiosity I had a look back at when the first book was first released: 1987! A 23 year long series is not a bad effort I think
