Not at all. Its a very simple campaign system when its used at its most basic.

If your going to run it with an underlying campaign system, are you going to break out the Might Empires tiles? Obviously not using any of the bonuses or capturable locations, just to get a visual look at how everyone is doing?
And if so, perhaps you should make it that each entrant has to come with their own converted and painted Mighty Empires market to represent their army?

Using the tiles, They are now all painted and ready to go! No bonuses as that would ruin the aspect of the tournament as a few good d6 rolls would give you some major advantages. What I was going to do was allow people to challenge someone they have yet to play but the logistics of that would be a bit odd as you will definately get a few odd ones in round 4 and 5 where things do not line up properly.
What I will do however is have everyone start with one location and use their battle points; 1 for a loss, 2 for draw, 3 for minor, 4 for solid and 5 for massacre to grow their territory so yes, totally visual only to give you an idea how well you are doing to everyone else. The bigger your empire the better you are doing.
I plan on running a full campaign later in the year over a weekend with smaller armies for more game play. 1200pts with a 2 hour limit 4 games day one, 3 day 2. Full campaign rules and some special events but more on that down the line!

A few more notes on the tournament: There will be no special features. We utilised these last time but most people forgot to use them. The magic phase (or this tournaments gimick) A few years ago back when this edition of Warhammer came out we had a few games using a variant set of magic rules. It does not radically change the way magic is used but can make spells go off a little more often (but also increases the chance of miscast a little too) This is the way it worked: Spell Caster chooses his spell, target etc Spell Caster rolls his chosen amount of dice in which to cast his spell. If the spell is successful then his opponent may choose to dispel either through a scroll etc or with dispel dice. If a scroll is used the spell it dispelled and thats it but if dice are used and successful then you may try to 'power up your spell' To 'power up' you may roll more dice to add to your casting result effectively increasing your chance to get the spell off (this can be risky because if you had already rolled a '1' in your original cast then rolling another '1' will cause you to miscast. However this dice roll can NOT cause Irresistable Force.) Your opponent may then roll an extra dice to try to Dispel it but can not use a scroll at this stage. The total dice a spellcaster can use can not exceed his maximum casting dice. As you can see this makes magic a little more dynamic and spellcasters more important to the game hence the title of this tournament :Winds of Magic If you have any questions let me know! One Final thing guys. Who of you is likely to be attending. I have a list that has the definates and maybes: Matt L (Brettonians) Brad V (High Elves) Jacob M (Warriors of Chaos) Meg-anne H (Vampire Counts) Steve H (Lizardmen?) Mike T (High Elves) Stanley G (Wood Elves?) Corey A (Greenskins) Paul C (Empire) Scott B (Empire) Scott N (Warriors of Chaos) Iain C (Tomb Kings) John N (High Elves) Let me know if you need your name struck off the list or if you would like it added

Hey Ash (and others), this is Brad, better known as the champ of your last tourney I'm just wondering about the tournament scoring, mainly since you have three High Elf armies listed above and I wouldn't mind bringing something along that is a little different. Will we be scored on painting this time around or will it just be Battle and Sports like last time? Your input may help me solve the internal turmoil that is fielding something painted vs fielding something I haven't used before. Cheers mate.

How could we forget the champion!
There will be a best painted army part of the tournament but that is totally separate from the battle points, sportsman and generalship. Not many people down here have a painted army so we keep it separate but still reward those that go all the way with it.
Field something new I say and totally surprise us!

hey ash since when did i say i was taking wood elves? especially since no one wants to see another 5 warhawks on the battlefield! also because after last time with the amount of squig s@#t i copped for my list i think i'll use another army!
people just don't get it the list is supposed to be quick and evasive just like a skirmishing patrol, so i don't know might take an army where half of it starts of the battlefield and hit them in their tight little britches! although i do still have a tough and gritty army that hasn't ventured from the keep in a year or two, we'll see!

I know you never said that so I threw in the '?', I knew you were looking to take part in this though.
I reckon you should bring the Dwarfs out for the weekend. Nothing like seeing the wee ones waddling across the table top!

yeah i think i will and what kind of mess 2 flame cannons can make, i'm just still pissed about what was said after the last tourny, that's all and after that i don't think the wood elves will leave the shelve again, but i'll keep adding to them.

People just did not field the appropriate things to take care of them. They (wood elves) are not invincible you just need to match their speed with cavalry of your own and give them magic items/banners to make sure they get there.
I will have to play them again sometime.

Sounds like my chaos army will be perfect to deal with them lol You may see a mildura wood elves army taking the field there, depends if sammy gets hers done in time. She picks up her battallion tommorow and tends to paint fairly quick.

dodo it's not that they're hard to kill in combat it's getting to them that is, for example all but 2 units have a movement 18 to 20 inches all units are either fast cav or flying skirmishers, and those that aren't either of those can suddenly disappear and re-appear else where on the table as sucker units, for example this general idea of what you could see me field;
-either 2 nobles as waywatchers or on great eagles just to sucker punch you in the crown jewels as you open the door for me, -1 or 2 spellsingers on mounts running round making unit invisible or moving forests in your way so as that you have take the long way round since the two of them working together can move any woods up to 14" between them or if they're really good and there's a unit in those woods, kill them off using the trees to berry them, -the bulk of my army is usually 4 or 5 units of glade riders of 8 or 10 with their 18" move, no movement penalty for shooting and well trees not not blocking them means they're usually in and out fast, -an assistant unit i always use is a unit of waywatchers and why not, -and then there's the ever elusive 9 to 15 "angry buggies" on patrol just waiting to perform that ever painful happuwahti! on what ever they get to do it to and that's sometimes the nastiest thing they can find, and it nearly always is a slaughter, the biggest amount of warhawks that i've ever lost in a game was to jacob and then again to ash and 2 models from each unit out of 3 'damb fanatics and bat swarms'.
now you should have an idea why it's not an easy list to play against, but on the same note when your army basically has no armor saves it's a hard army to use, that why i use the tactics of continually adjusting my tactics, so well maybe if when you come up next i might give your chaos a game with the wood elves as soon as the reppocutions have settled from what was just said.
