It has been suggested to me that with the club on the horizon that someone needs to get rpgs on the boil again. The question that I am asking is what do people want to get out of it? Also what games are people interested in playing. Some of the games suggested are Dungeon & Dragons ver 3.0 or 3.5 or maby even 4th ed, there is also War hammer quest or even D20 Modern and all of it variants. I am open to suggestions and willing to try almost any system that isn't over the top in the complexity of its game mechanics, e.g. 1st ed of Shadowrun (man did that game cause headaches). I am even willing to get a campaign style game of Car Wars going. I think a track setup similar to the remade movie Death Race with lap restrictions and even power up and traps.

Maybe some Iron Kingdoms to tie in with War Machine? 4th ed is good for bringing in newbies to the RPG hobbie, its just shit upon by all the old players because it couldnt possibly be better than 3.5 >_> Maybe some Star Wars RPG?

The original Shadowrun was a majorly technical game. The group I DM'd for pretty much left all the hacking and magic out of it and we pretty much just played it as a sci fi generic RPG with ome of the culture stuff retained. We played it in 'Adelaide', using the street directories for our maps and replaced all the 'native population' of Australia replaced with native americans.
Was interesting especially the massive shoot out in the 'Myer Centre' which I changed into being a huge Yakuza centre.....
Will play DnD but would favour 3.5 as its a brilliant system with many options for different campaigns as we speak plus all the licensed out systems that will not be going over to 4th ed (no point in remaking all their stuff as 4th ed is not so popular and may be getting dropped by WOTC for a rerelease of 3rd)
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is somethingI have the books for but have not played. Am happy to run a group through and originally this was going to be a Thurs night thing.
Warhammer Quest can be good for some RPGlite stuff. Lots of dice rolling and monster hacking. Lots of action and little roleplay between if thats the style someone is after. You can tailor it for more Rp elements though. I had a good group going with it for a while and they really enjoyed it. Plus just recently I have found a two man Snotling Team Character which looks like fun.
and I am loving the ideas that you have come up with for Carwars. Definately give it a bash but thats for another board..

Just as many people ive talked to who hate 4th ed, like or have no problems with it. You keep saying theyre going to drop it but we're yet to hear anythign and its been months since you told me the first time. Instead they just keep releasing more and more 4th ed stuff, which is selling fine. 4th ed was simplified for the same reason 5th ed 40k was, to make it appeal a broader audience. Sitting on a high horse parotting on about how much better 3.5 was over 4th is just elitist. 4th is whats here and its still a great system. You should all get over yourselves.

Oh, and a little clearing up needs to be done on your statement.
I never said it WOULD be getting dropped I said it MIGHT be getting dropped.
A while ago The company that owns WOTC (Hasbro I think) made a statement that the WOTC division was not operating too well and many management decisions have created a situation where the shareholders are not happy with the amount of money the division is bringing in so they were looking at dropping more than 1 (they said some) of their major lines.
people are of the opinion that Magic will definately not be one of them and have speculated that it might be DND 4th ed as 1. it has not been as popular as previous editions as can be seen by their licensees being tentative about picking it up, 2. The company has not been able to fulfill certain promises about some of ther content that was meant to be available at the time of release, 3. It was getting too expensive.
So it MIGHT be getting dropped but not a cold hard confirmation.

Anyways...
Dave, when its decided on the system do you know what night we are going to play? Saturday night would be a good one as we could roll it into Friday but too many people around to distract the group..

So it MIGHT be getting dropped but not a cold hard confirmation. Finally. All you've been saying in our previous conversations was that Hasbro was angry at Wizards and that 4th ed Might or Probably was goign to be dropped because everyone thought 3.5 was better. Meh ive got all my books so i dont care anymore, Monster Manual 2 is out next month ^_^ As much as you guys seem to not like 4th ed, i could suggest a pre-made adventure, the 4th ed pre-mades are pretty good and require no brainthought or organisation, with everything planned out so if the normal DM is indisposed another can take over and for the most part no straight away whats going on. Even if you dont like 4th ed, just mod the encounters to fit your chosen rule set. I picked up Scepter Tower of Spellguard (2nd - 4th lvl) and cant wait to run it with my group.

I personally have never said that " I don't like 4th ed" all I have ever said is that it appears to be amazingly similar to a certain online game that shall remain name less. I don't know if that was a deliberate decision to try to get some market share back or just a coincidence.
Any way this subject is about what people want to play, not what people don't like.
If all you want to do is whinge go start your own thread.

Dave you'll not the 2nd half of my post where i actually went back on topic with a reasonable suggestion.
Warhammer Fantasy sounds awsome... just because of the ability to be a Slayer ^_^ Shadowrun ive always been curious about since I loved the novels ive read of it. Although i hear it can be pretty brutal in combat.

Yep, Shadowrun can be brutal. WFRP can be even more so with the lowliest of the low being able to fell the mightiest if the mighty with a lucky blow. The stats say every combat you go into there is about a 25% chance of dying... lucky there are fate points.

Now that I have got that out of my system I would just like to make it clear for all to understand that I have no intention of GMing all of these systems. If there is a system that you are interested in then I suggest, nay encourage yo to get a hold of the rules and post your intentions on these boards. I think that you may be pleasantly surprised at the interest generated as I for one am willing to try almost any system.
I plan to try to start a campaign based around the D20 Modern system in the genre of "the Chosen Few" set in the 21 century. It should be vaguely similar to "Buffy" or even "Gang Buster" (the DC comic not the manga) with the occasional dose of " X-Files" thrown in to spice things up.

I'll DM Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Read the rules (even own them) and I have DM'd a fair few times in the past. Warhammer Fantasy RP is slightly different than a lot of the RPG's out there. It can be combat heavy, light or both; people should just let me know what they are after.
The best thing about it is that we can use all of the preexisting range of GW minis that we have bought through the years!
I'll also gladly take part in your D20 campaign. Sounds like it will be very interesting! Buffy crossed with Xfiles... God damned shit sucking aliens?
