You guys may remember that a fair while ago I mentioned that GW would be making a movie. I can not find the thread here right now but its there and one of you more resourceful people can prob find a link to it. Not that it matters... For here is some more information: "Ultramarines is a 70-minute sci-fi thriller that will use CGI and state-of-the-art animation production techniques. Games Workshop is delighted to be working with UK-based production company Codex Pictures, who have the momentous task of bringing the Warhammer 40,000 universe to the screen. Commenting on the news, Erik Mogensen, Licensing and Acquired Rights Manager for Games Workshop, said, "Over the years, we have been approached again and again by all sorts of producers and film companies wanting to take our intellectual property to the screen. We have always believed that, in the right hands, the stories, themes and characters from the Warhammer 40,000 universe would lend themselves perfectly to the movie genre. We're working closely with the talented team at Codex Pictures, who have an excellent understanding of the Warhammer 40,000 intellectual property and an inspired vision for the movie. We can't wait to see our universe come to life on-screen." "We're hugely honoured to be making Ultramarines," said a spokesman for Codex Pictures. "It's taken a lot of research and development to get to this stage – and it's such an exciting challenge to be able to bring the depth and power of the Warhammer 40,000 universe to a brand new medium." News of the production of a movie was unveiled at UK Games Day, the biggest event in the Games Workshop calendar, on Sunday, September 27 2009. There is a lot of whinging on several different forums about this (especially that one which is famous for it ) but I for one am favourable of it. Even if it ends up with a dodgy story (which im sure it will not) it will no doubt have some awesome scenes of the action we have all no doubt imagined at one time or another. HUZZAH!!

Hahaha i love how it was "they were approached" so basically they didnt want anyone else to make it and make a profit, GW wanted to fund the picture and get all the cash.
Hope its good, but if its all CGI we'll probably be waiting a while. Should have been space wolves movie. Much more epic >_>

And CGI does not actually take that long these days especially as I doubt they will be going photorealistic (check out the company who is making it) If they wanted too they could belt it out in 6-10 months. It depends on how quality they want the final product and how much to spend on production costs and time.
As for what I think would be great. Well photoreal would be awesome but we are not going to get it. Something to the quality of the first Dawn of War intro would suit me just fine.
As for the story.. Battlefor Mcragge and all the tyranids would be cool but I say it will be Assault on Black Reach. Would be a very good sales tool. Watch the movie, relive it. And before anyone says it did not work for LOTR you are very very wrong. Lord of the Rings has sold very well and introduced alot of new people to the hobby. Might not sell aswell as 40K (nothing does) but it will have helped increased sales figures of that product.
anyways did you sign up for the updates?

Of course it will be. The game is aimed at ages 12-16 as their main audience. And main focus of sales is to the parents of young teenages that come into the stores.
But it would be cool if it would recieve an 'R' rating just for excess violence.

It wouldn't be released in Australia even with an 'R' rating if it had excess violence because the ratings prudes would deem it excessively violent and ban it.

They would release an 'R' rated movie here but it would not have 'Advertising Appeal' meaning noone will back up the film with advertising dollars.

It would be R and still be censored as all hell. Like everything else that we get.

Movies do not get censored to be allowed to be viewed here they are censored to get advertising money. A movie with an 'R' rating has a much smaller piece of the population who is 'legally' allowed to view it. Hence the limited advertising appeal.
You want your movie seen you want it advertised. You want it advertised you want an MA max rating so you ask the ratings body how to do it. They tell you what to cut. You get your rating and the dosh..
Games on the otherhand are different due to the 'interactivity' and people who listen to Manson and play DnD worshipping the devil....

More news in blog form, one with the producer and the other with Dan Abnett. From listening to their video blogs this movie has been in the works for a while and should stay true to the background (Hell the Dan man himself is writing it). Here is a link: ultramarinesthemovieblog.com/

ULTRAMARINES PRODUCTION UPDATE: Space Marines to be animated with state-of-the-art facial capture technology Latest news on Ultramarines, the forthcoming movie based on Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 universe, is that it is to employ state-of-the-art facial animation technology developed by a leading entertainment industry digital services provider to bring the Space Marines and their adversaries to life on the screen. Image Metrics’ unique system captures and transforms all the nuances, subtleties and emotions of the facial performances of real life actors into 3D animation – a process praised by The New York Times as ‘technology that captures the soul’. As a result, actors are able to give expressive performances without any face markers, make-up or special equipment. The Image Metrics system then translates this data into animation curves that can be used in any of the leading 3D software programmes. ultramarinesthemovie.com/news/2010-01-26/ultramarines-production-update
