now, i have been thinking, and thought that on fridays, does it have to be wargaming that we all particiapate in?.i mean jacob used to bring that shock machine (was a great game for those unfamiliar),and im thinking maybe we could just do anything that seemed like fun! anyway, some things i have thought of! -Rock Band. I do not know if anyone has heard of this new ps2 game but im definitely investing in one (ill own one in 1-3 weeks), it is a game on the ps2 that sends either you by yourself or anywhere up to 4 of your mates aswell into thepersona of a rock group, you perform songs in a similair manner to guitar hero, though you can perform with bass, lead, vocals and drums, if you are not familiar with either of these games......google 'em.and if you dont digg that idea then just bring along plain ps2 games.(there is a ps2 at the d and d if thou hasnt realised.sounds likefun to me (features songs from 60's to today) -DVD's. ok, i dont think this needs any more explaining just copy and paste this list and add any ones you could bring star wars family guy seez 6 simpsons seez 9 - ? add any ideas that you have. And if you....poo-poo this idea please keep it to yourselves, because if nowones diggin it i think ill be able to get the jist with out the whole 'what a stupid idea!' danny p.s this is just a suggestion, im not shovin anything down anyones throat

That ps2 is coming home with me tonight.
DVD's: Maybe they will bring a warhammer movie out oneday.... that can be played at the Dice and Deck.
Other things will be available to do here soon. But that will be on member nights and will have such things as LAN parties or Halo nights. More on that to come. Wont be doing stuff like that on regular nights were we are trying to grow the hobby and aspects of it.
ps, the shock machine was Scotts.

Yeah, Gotta agree with Ash - If it's a wargaming club / store, well, that's generally what you can expect to do most of the time whilst ya there... That said, everyone needs a break sometime... I know when I was running LAN parties, we'd have other bits n pieces happening for a break between LANing. In the case of the Den, perhaps have a SMALL telly (52cm or so) with a movie or some sort of sci-fi / fantasy series running in a corner.... BIG tellies are awesome, but mean that everyone will watch the screen, not the game. Small telly means you can swing past and take a look occasionally, but it's not the centre of attention. Games like PS2 / Xbox - I think in a wargame store that's a bad idea personally - It's generally considered on most groups I've been on that the biggest 'threat' to wargaming as an ongoing hobby is came consoles, because the vast majority of todays youth (present company exempt of course) are too lazy to spend 2+ hours on a wargame (Another reason for faster games than 40K? ) - they want the instant gratification that a console brings. Thought of having a chess board in the corner? When you get down to it, that's STILL the ultimate wargame, and one of the originals, and is an interesting change of pace from 40K and the like.

I agree with danny not with all his ideas but friday needs something i dont no wat but it does need something not electronic.
Nostalga nights would be fun look back on old games and do things like backgammon or chess or the old warhammer rules would be interesting check out the old models or something.
Dont shoot me down its an idea in progress

Actually, perhaps other Boardgames occasionally aren't a bad idea? I'm not talking about Monotony, Ludo and Snakes & Ladders, I'm talking about 'german' boardgames. Stuff like Caracassone, Settlers of Catan, Puerto Rico, and the like. Robo Rally comes to mind too. Carwars. Huuuge lists.

Well some of those things might happen in the future. In the meantime we need to get the store comfortably supporting itself which means promoting our own games and products. When it does get to that point we will be able to have special nights and the such. Movie viewing nights for members etc.
We are planning amny member only nights that will include things that fall outside of the hobby (halo, lans, all night games/painting comps etc)
But for now we will have to keep the ideas in this thread as a 'in the future' type of thing.

This is kinda off topic, an idea that occured to me as a result of seeing so many people wander in to my mate's GW game shop, look daunted and leave.
I recon if you wanna pull in some of the newbs off the street you could stock some more readily recognised games, like board games such as risk then when complete noobs wander in from the street looking to buy a gift for their little brother or whatever they might loiter around the stuff they are familiar with and give you guys the oportunity to swoop on them and give them the big sell on GW stuff, and if you can't win 'em round you could still get a few bucks proffit on the board games etc.
Not suggesting you sign up with Milton Bradley or anything, just pop into a couple of garage sales and build a stack of second hand games to apeal to the heathens who don't know wargames themselves.
Just an idea that occured to me.
As for movie nights etc, well that's what non-wargaming friends are for!
