Issue 2, November 2009
Welcome to the second issue of the Guild News!
It has been a fairly busy month within both the various clubs and on the message boards. Reports on 2 RGG tournaments, Mildura Waaaghs Funny Buggers League, Reeborc NFI League and the state of the Hobby Competitions all follow along with other news about the various clubs and what they have coming up.
Starting from the next issue the Guild News will be presenting a interview/article on one of the hobbyists that participate at one of the clubs that we feature. This will be known as a GUILD HOBBYIST SPOTLIGHT and will be a regular feature.
This newsletter can not survive without the forums which wont survive without the clubs which wont survive without the players. It's for this reason that we will be bringing you an interview with a random hobbyist/gamer each month and talk about their start into the hobby, their collection (past and present), their view on the state of things and their wants for the future of the hobby.
If you would like to be a featured Hobbyist then do not hesitate to PM me through the forums.
CLUB FOCUS
Riverland Gamers Guild (RGG)
The Sundered Sword Results
Over the weekend of the 17th and 18th of October the Riverland Gamers Guild held a 2000pt Warhammer Fantasy Battle Tournament. All the usual restrictions applied for the points value of the tournament and RGG head of events (and the Club) Steve/Draconis had the following to say:
"A great weekend, made better by a great (albeit small) bunch of players.
My Gobbo's pretty cool... Out of the four games we ended up playing I had a crushing defeat at the hands of Shanes tree man / dryad list.
Then a couple of close run (but ultimate losses) games against Scott and Stanley playing Dark Elves and Beastmen respectively.
Then there was a tiny slimmest of margins win against Dodo's Chaos Cavalry ;D
Place getters were...
First place Matt (Ranger)
Second place Shane Miller
Third place Bega
With Dodo picking up the sports award and Paul getting the wooden spoon (why break the habit of a life time ;D)"
Now if memory serves me correctly this was Steve's first venture into Fantasy Battle Tournaments as both a player AND a Tournament Organizer. Pure madness but thats how things work in the Riverland!
From my discussions with the participants all had a very good time!
Well done to Steve for running the first Fantasy Tournament the RGG has held in quite a while and hopefully another one is in the works.

The Red Crusade Results
Hot on the heels of the Sundered Sword Fantasy Tournament was the Red Crusade 40K Tournament. This 2000pt Tournament was held over the weekend of the 14th and 15th November smack bang in the middle of a November Heat Wave. Temperatures reached into the mid Forties as 8 very mad players set out to determine who amongst them was king.
When asked why this tournament needed to happen Steve answered with 'Heretics need burning, that's why!'
I guess theres no better time to burn a heretic than in the middle of a heat wave...
The tournament saw a lot of power armor present on the tables in both chaotic and non-chaotic forms and a smattering of Tau, Necron and Orks thrown into the mix.
Place getters were as follows:
Kruger (Khorne)- first place
Mouse (Khorne) and Shippy (a very slap dash Tau list) - equal second place
Craig (Blood Angels) - third place
With Dave (Blood Angels) bringing up the rear.

Apocalypse to hit the RGG again SOON
Just a tiny Morsel of information:
'....also, we'll be organizing an Apocalypse weekend for the end of November/start of December...'
Thats all the information I have from Steve at the moment regarding this. I'm sure a board will be thrown together soon with details of this upcoming Apocalypse game so make sure you check out the events section regularly.
Renmark has a healthy tradition of running massive games of Apocalypse with quite a number of them being run in the pass. Some of the biggest games to have been played in the state have been run there with many dedicated (and crazy) gamers taking part. For an idea of what to expect below are the links to the write up of Februaries MEGAPOCALYPSE and the biggest game to have graced the RGG to date.
Megapocalypse 09
The 28th of February 09 bought about the largest game ever in the History of Renmark. 10 Mad Keen gamers from Renmark and the surrounding community headed down to the Dice and Deck to play in an absolutely massive game of 40k Apocalypse.

Mildura WAAAGH!!! (MW)
The Funny Buggers League
The Funny Buggers League continues as the cross species team ups bring about some unique pairings. Nothing to report as such except that at the halfway point a Tyranid Player and a Tau Commander were leading the series.
As the league is drawing to a close its hoped we can bring you a full run down of this event along with some memorable moments from the players.
Also a reminder that the Mildura Waaagh will be hosting an Apocalypse game on the 28th of November so get your Super Heavies ready!

Northern Football Invitational (NFI)
The Reeborc NFI Season Report
In the Northern Football Invitational the preseason warm up competition is just a distant memory as the Reeborc NFI regular season matches are well underway. 6 coaches have played games thus far, with more expected in the coming weeks. Half of the coaches are experienced campaigners who are having their way with most of the newer coaches, though the newbies are picking up skills quickly and look to be competitive by the time the playoffs roll around.
Week 1's games took place in the sunny desert,
Week 2's games were played in blizzard conditions up near the axebite pass
Week 3's games were a little more civilized, though a pitch with trees in and an infectious plague-ridden crowd kept teams and their coaches on their toes.
Week 4's games were played in Praag, Kislev where kicking an opponent was a legitimate strategy or even better let the crowd have at them.
Week 5's games had the teams still playing in Kislev where due to a string of Marauder Raids the city was in lockdown. This made the crowd even more wilder then usual with the pitch being pelted with empty Flagons and you did not even want to contemplate being thrown into the crowd...
Next week teams travel into the worlds edge mountain where the Dwarves are kind enough to open one of their mountain holds for an entertaining bout of Dungeonbowl matches.
Several teams have already played four games already, and as the season progresses some teams will soon meet playoff entry criteria, allowing the teams to take a rest and prepare themselves for the big games to come. (and allow their coaches to try new teams just for fun, or perhaps as an alternate option for the playoffs).
Playoffs on the Horizon
Next month we can announce the dates for the Reeborc NFI playoffs, its structure and the teams that made it through. Keep your eyes peeled for next months issue!
Forum Happenings!
'Horror' Comp closed!
Due to a completely underwhelming response the Horror Competition was closed 4 weeks into its run. This was due to many factors and after talking to some of the more regular hobbyist on the forum a slight change has been made to its structure and its prizes. For a full rundown on the news relating to this click the link below:

'Duel' Comp Opens
With death comes rebirth and during the same weekend that the Horror Themed Competition closed a new one was opened. This time the theme is Duel and along with the $50 GW voucher prize we have a few more entries then we did with the Horror Comp. The Duel theme really opens up a lot of opportunity for a hobbyist to really express them self.
So far we have entries that depict mighty well known Duels in the 41st millennium, a inevitable fight between an Orc Warlord and his possible replacement and a famous scene from a fairly well known and loved movie.
Its not too late to have a go at this the first (well second...) Hobby Competition. There is just under two weeks to go so maybe you could get something together. Remember an entry does not have to be a piece of modeling; it could be a piece of fiction, a piece of artwork.. whatever you would like to enter that fits both the theme and the hobby as a whole.
All entries must be in by 11:59pm Sunday 29th November.
