Well I have had my first taste of Blitzkrieg Commander and I liked it. Its a very smooth and fast flowing game and can be used with any scale miniatures that you like. funnily enough I have loads of FOW miniatures and since 10-20mm miniatures are recommended for this game they will do nicely. Another fantastic element of this game is that I can use my FOW minis as is, based as they are.
As I was saying I had a game of this and was taught at the same time by discostu. It was a good game but we did not make it into hand to hand combat so I never got to learn those rules. Why this never happened is simple; there was not enough terrain on the table and we were literally ripping each other apart with gunfire.
This needs to be remedied.
This diary will see me on the road to creating a great looking BC gameboard complete with terrain and while I'm at it I'll be completing a painted BC army along the way.
The army itself will utilise the yanks I have for FOW. At the moment I really only have some tanks and a few pieces of artillery painted. BC recommands that you use a fair number of infantry stands so I shall be completing a number of these for this purpose.
Any new miniatures I base and paint will use the style and setup of FOW so they can still be used for that game too.
To put it in a nutshell I will be painting a small FOW army using the lists from BC which means I do not need to adhere to platoon sizes or any of those shenanigans but could still finish painting the platoon at a later date for use with FOW.
Im not sure if thats confusing to you but I guess it will make more sense later.
The first thing that I need to do for the army side of this is make a list, which I will do shortly.
the other aspect of this diary will be the table and its terrain. I will be using my Realm of Battle Gaming Table for the basis of the table but I will make some additional sections for the purpose of a modular river (2-3 pieces). There are some great looking river sections that have been bought out but they are kind of expensive for what I want to do. I would need to strip them back and reflock and paint them to match my table (and to have the water look a little more realistic) however if it looks like it is going to be too hard to make the modular river as I want them I may have to open the wallet.
There will be a few buildings on the table representing a small village and the outlaying farm buildings. I may even go as far as to create ruined versions of these.... don't know yet.
Last will be the stands of trees. These are great for breaking LOS and also for better chance of units surviving firefights. Another reason is to hid ethe pits of skulls on my ROB table. I'll probably purchase some tree kits as I can see what you can do with the make your own stuff and I think I can add some improvements to their looks.
Anyways as I like a challenge I need a deadline. Since discostu is possibly my main opponent (unless hivemind gets his act together , remember all you need is a few tanks and your Russians are good to go for this game) and he is being deployed away for 6 months I think I'll use that as my time frame; 6 months, until he gets back and then the battles can continue!
