This session was great fun. I once again got to play 'Pandemic' (minus the expansion this time around) with the first game being a complete flop; massive outbreaks through Africa and South America after only 3 players got to have a turn!
The second game saw the players save the world in style through good application of teamwork and full utilisation of player roles. This is still one of my favourite games.
Next for myself was a quick game of 'Infernal Contraption'. This game seems to hit the tables at least once a session. This was a really close run game with different styles of approach of contraption building by the players; Alvin and Jacob (kwick) both constructing massive machines that drained their own and other players parts piles while Brett (unholywolf) and myself constructing much smaller machines. Jacob managed the victory but the last turn could have gone either way with any of the four players being in a position to win (Due to a sneaky equalizer engine placement)
To Court the King was next and what a great game. I like a game where the seemingly underdog player, this time beind brett, can in the course of two turns make some absolutely fantastic roles and come out ahead to win the game. Fantastic.
Dominion was busted out for two games and this is quickly turning into one of my top 3 games. I like ccgs but do not like the collecting ie purchasing blindly aspect of the games. Dominion allows the deck building mechanic with everyone using the same pool of cards. This is a fantastic game and if this sounds good to you then head over to
boardgame Geek and look it up.
This session I also got to finally play Carcassonne. I say finally as this game is really one of those 'foundation games' that all players should play at least once. Its a draw and place game with players building the lad and trying to claim choice places with their 'meeples'. This game was great and with 5 players it was very amusing when things did not go so good especially Shanes exclamations of wonder at the crazy town plans being created.
'Carcassonne' instantly shot up to my second favourite game after this one session and I am hoping to make a purchase of it soon!
The session went out with a bang for myself with a large game of 'Heroscape'. I love this game and from the looks of things we may have inducted some new players who would casually glance over to have their interest piqued. It was agreat game. Teams were made up of myself and Shane playing against Meg and Jacob.
Meg and Shane were the quality players of their respective teams while Jacob and myself botched it big time.
Highlights of the game came in the final stages. Jacobs final piece (Raelin) as well as my own (shiori) ascended the mountain at the centre of the table to duke it out swinging their handbags at each other. Round after round they each sat on their final wounds swinging away before Jacob was victorious!
In the meantime Shane destroyed everything in his way with Charos the dragon. This one Unique Hero level dragon took on just about the entire Marro army singlehandedly to finally bring us victory!
This session was great. I had an awesome time and it looked like everyone else was having one too. 11 hours of pure gaming and learning some new games along the way... what more could you want?
Next session will be Saturday the 20th.
