Well with the tale of gamers announced for June ive decided once again to try and get an army done. Despite my relative epic fail from last time. I've chosen Necrons for a couple of reasons: They should hopefully be easy to paint (cus im a lazy thingy), their codex is f**king old, I dont see many people playing them (im a sucker for the unloved) and finally... Monoliths. Interspaced with the necrons will be a few models here and there from other projects i need to keep pottering along, such as my space wolves, chaos and temple guard which will serve as breaks from painting the same models over and over and over again. Ill start off simple with either a box of warriors or a battleforce depending on what my cash situation is at that point. Followed on by another battle force, which knowing me will probably be it. If i knock them all out fairly quickly ill add in a monolith or 2.
The name of this thread isnt just because theyre necrons... ill be going with a gold paint job for the entire army. Havent decided exactly how ill go about this so any suggestions would be great. At the moment im thinking Shining Gold with a tin bitz dry brush to make them weathered, and green for all the glowey bits. Or just Shining gold with some highlights. Either one will be washed with something, probably rip off the 50/50 Badab/Devlan mix out of white dwarf.

Cool. You should try to find a c3po head thats to scale and add it in the force somewhere... a random warrior as a Easter Egg for the observant!
As for the paintjob advice... Not a whole lot to give besides paint them black, heavy drybrush the hell out of them with a gold color of your choosing. Mix up a badab black wash/gryphonne sepia and wash them quite heavily then re dry brush (lightly).... Should look weathered and will be quick as hell when done in a production line format.
How do you reckon you will be basing them?

Maybe also come up with a cool model conversion for something Dreadnaught sized and make a data sheet for apocalypse?

Oh yay! A pity post.
Actually i was thinking along the same lines with the C3PO head. only i was going to put it on the necron lord! Finally the revenge of goldenrod! Thanks for the painting idea ill definately give it a whirl when i get the chance. Basing will be as simple as possible. So dark brown sand. cant remember the colours but charadon or khemri? dunno. something simple like that since i dont really base my mini's as it is. Dunno about conversion. Get back to me after ive actually got confidence in my modelling.

Just use some citadel modelling sand on the base and seal it with watered down PVA for something reallt simple. Maybe add some of the spare translucent green sprue shaved into shards sticking out of the ground?

Yeah pretty much. The shards a nice idea aswell, thanks. I should have broadband by kick off time so I should actually be able to upload pictures. Will just be balancing the purchase of the army with the paying of the internet and the buying of the new computer bits.

Have a scarab swarm ripping apart some other droids from the starwars universe. Have your Necron 3po lord bathing in an oil bath!

Well I decided with the 4 month time limit and the easy paint scheme for my necrons ive decided that my over all goal will be 4000pts by the end of Tale of Gamers. With 4 monoliths and both C'tan in that. Hopefully I have the cash to fulfil it inbetween saving for my next security certificate and trip to new zealand.

Well things have been delayed due to money and now me missing most of a week of work due to a cold (lame i know but apparently sneezing and coughing is frowned upon at McDonalds lol). After paying for broadband this week I should hopefully have enough to order in a battleforce and codex get the ball rolling.

Wont know until I get the codex So you've probably got a better idea than me. If I remember correctly theres about 24 warriors, 6 or 7 swarms and 3 destroyers. The battleforce is purely so I'll have a playable army. After that I'm aiming the rest purely towards Apocolypse games. I still want to field 12 Wraithes in the Storm Caller Warcell formation.

Hell yes, I pretty much collect for apocalypse too. Much more freedom to express yourself through your army. You get all the big stuff plus its more of a laugh then competitive which is more of what I like.
Hoping to run a Planet Strike Campaign that incorporates both regular and apocalypse battles.

Yeah should be good combining apocolypse and planet strike. I was looking at the attacker/defender force organization charts and it seems that apocolypse size games are where that will really be brought out.
My army wont be purely for apocolypse though, Its just going to be one which will have alot of models i can field in apocolypse.

It will be good for regular games mostly I would have thought with it having a Force Organisation Chart and Apoc ignores those completely. Its just a way that people can use (and buy) even more exotic stuff for their armies and still be able to use it in regular sized games with official rulings backing them. I can see Planet Strike Tournaments cropping up which is always a good thing

Thats why I said Apocolypse Size and not apocolypse.
Looks like my plans are delayed again as the broadband i signed up for cost alot more than I thought it would (mainly forgot to include the cost of a modem in my calculations). Ill get there eventually though.
