Teams now use the full inducements (handicap) package as listed in the current rulebook.[/u]
Special play cards
Are no longer used as the handicap,
each coach may choose one card at random from those available.
To enable weaker teams to compete with better teams luck has a way of sorting things out.
Handicap Options
underdog may take 1 special play card for each 5 points difference in team value
alternatively, or in combination with special play cards the underdog may take any of the following for each 10 points difference in team value
an extra apothecary
extra rerolls
bribes
Special Play cards.
The effects of these cards can be subtle, maybe one of your opposing players has a hangover and is underperforming, he may have a severe bout of diarrhea and have to spend half the game off the field, sometimes the event is less subtle, a wizard may have a bet on the underdog and decide to start casting fireball at the better team!
The original special play cards are used, they have been sorted so they are approximately of even value, though some cards will be more or less valuable depending on the teams and the situations in the game.
This is done during the Inducements phase of prematch preparations at prematch stage 3.
Each coach may observe the team roster of his oponent at any time, and should do so at the start of the match to help ensure the difference in team ratings is calculated correctly. Team Rating includes increases in player value due to skill increases as listed on LRB5 page 27.
the best way to keep your roster up to date is to go through the postgame procedure properly after each game, don't rush through it or leave it for later!
the underdog will take one card for each full 5 points difference in team value. Depending on the cards drawn this can make underdogs very competitive, this is done knowingly in order to guard against big teams getting out of control at the cost of the fun of new coaches.
Different handicap procedures may be used for tournaments, special events, or if the GM gets bored. Expect the unexpected.
If you have an idea that fits within the bloodbowl universe then by all means mention it and it might get added as a house rule!
