Well for the first few months I did weekly updates for the club but as we are now at a point where everyone knows whats going on there has been no need.
We have been growing very well from the first meeting 3 months ago starting with only a small handful of gamers we are now numbered at 14 regulars who make it at least fortnightly and another new face has come on board in the last week!
The club has been dominated by Warhammer 40k but with the release of the new Fantasy Rules it seems all the fantasy players have made themselves known and games should be starting to be spotted around the place. We have atleast 8 fantasy players that I know of and this is a great starting number and with some of the non fantasy players starting talks about getting armies up and running the future is looking bright for Fantasy and its support at the club.
We may be upping the tournaments from being bi-monthly to monthly to have the ability to fully support both the major systems that we play. This will mean the tournaments will alternate between fantasy and 40k but this also means a pretty full calendar for the club. All our tournaments will follow the same format ie that they are more centred around the fun of the game aswell as exploring different ways to play them. Dogtags will still be the prize support with everyone recieving one whilst winners will be recognised by our patented dogtag silencer color system.
We shall need to design a perpetual trophy for the fantasy tournaments for the winners to be recognised for all time and this will follow the same design philosophy that is being used for the 40k trophy.
There will soon be a RPG arm of Greenacre Gamers in the near future for those wanting a bit of RPG action. Rogue Trader is likely to be the system of choice as one of the new members has recently ordered their copy and is looking for a group to play with. There is a thread elsewhere in the GG section of these forums dedicated to getting this going.
Although we have a dedicated boardgame day at Movie Nights (Saturday) it seems that boardgames are starting to make an appearance at the club so we may be preparing the back kitchen room to accomodate this need on Friday Nights also. Look forward to more spacehulk aswell as other boardgames coming soon; DUST Tactics being one of them...
Warmachine/Hordes was a common sight for a while at the club and I hope to see that make a resurgence. PP are releasing the battlegroup boxes in plastic so this will make a great and affordable entry into the hobby for those wanting to give it a shot.
Random Alliance is coming upon us very soon. The full details of this tournament including the timetable and missions have been posted in it's thread in the events section of the forums. I am very pleased with the amount of interest this has garnered with all 16 places have been taken up and a few more people showing interest meaning I may have to build another table!
This brings me to another point. Over the next two weeks I will be hard at work putting together more terrain on Friday games nights so please forgive me for not getting my army to the table. All this means is that there is a spare Ork army for people to have a go with if they like. I may also be purchasing some second hand terrain and table tops over the next few weeks so hopefully we will soon be able to sport the full 6 tables that we can accomodate at the club. This means more games and more room for gamers!
Future events at the club are as follows:
Sat 31st July - Random Alliance 1200pt random team tournament (Complete)
Sat 4th September - Drewpocalypse!
Sat 30th Oct - Halloween my favourite night of the year. Something special is being planned for this. Will be Fantasy based but somethign everyone can join in even if they do not have an army.
Sat 6th November - 1500pt Fantasy Tournament.
Sat 11th Dec - 40K character based tournament. Regular rules plus characters and their retinues will also count as scoring units!
Sat 25th Dec - Christmas Day. No events planned. Club will also be closed Christmas Eve.
So there you have it. A full calendar of events planned for Greenacre Gamers.
