Hi all, National Heroscape Day is October 16th. On Heroscapers.com, they advise the following: www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=32440So, if we get 16 participants, we could get product to use as prizes from WotC - we could also contribute surplus 'scape of our own as prizes. I'd be looking to spread what we get pretty thinly so that everyone get's something if possible - maybe divide it into lots of 16 and 1st gets first choice, etc. Considering the high price of scape over here it could be very worthwhile. Is there any possibility that we could get 16 confirmed quickly, along with a place to play? We need to give them notice so we get the stuff posted out ASAP, it takes a while to get here. I have about 2.5 mastersets of terrain with another 2.5 mastersets about to be posted - that should make several small maps. Ash, you probably have some terrain too. I'm happy to co-organise, but the closest thing I've run to an event like this is poker tournaments (28 players). Even those who aren't that into scape could be interested in the chance to win free product... Ash, you are probably going to need to help me here if you're interested because I know no one on this board (living in Morphett Vale with massive work & family commitments) - but I like the idea of meeting you all, and of free scape. I'm also busy in the early morning, but can set up stuff the night before. Probably need 16 players committed by the end of this month to go ahead with it... CRC

Ah, International Heroscape day. I have only had very small things run before but should be able to get the numbers. Play at movie nights where I hold Greenacre Gamers etc. I have run many many tournaments in the past and currently still do. If you want to run the event I'll co-organise it with you and give you all the support you need.
I have a number of sets (4 master sets and some of the extra stuff including Volcarren Wastelands that I just recieved.) My mate Shane has one of each main starter set too.
As for players we may be able to get 16. Might be an uphill shit fight though but can give it a whirl. If we don't get the numbers it does not mean we can not play scape.

Actually it's a no go for the room unless it finishes by 6pm as there is another group using it that day...

Hmmmm, would you guys be prepared to play elsewhere? I could ask a local bar/pool hall I know of that is pretty quiet, that will have a large space available.
They'd expect us to eat and drink there on the day, though - could prove a problem for long drives home.
What about a community hall, or the Unley place we've discussed before?
I'm happy to go with less folks, but if we hit that magic number, we get free scape (if they'll send it overseas)!

Would the room be free a week later?
OR
Can we get a 16 player tournament done in 4 hours? I suppose it's all about the tournament design really.

Oh, and there is the labour day holiday on 4/10 - that's an option, but we'd need to distrubute prizes (if any) later.

OK here's what each qualifying event will receive:
"We are looking at three D&D Master sets and one full Wave for each qualifying event. "
So that's seven prizes as is, and more if we break up the wave into squads and heroes... they may be flexible on the date too.

Ok, I'll get some communication out there.
Just need a date and times and you can put up a Event message and I'll sticky it in the events section and make it an announcement to get it off the ground.

OK let's make the date 23/10/10, starting at 1pm, please book the room (what will that cost?)... here's a potential structure:
1pm start 1:15ish 1st round 2pm 10 min break
2:10pm 2nd round 2:55pm 15 min break
3:10pm 3rd round 3:55pm 10 min break
4:05pm 4th round 4:50pm end rounds and judges get results together.
Each game is scored as follows: 3 points for a total win 2 points for a points win 1 point for a tie.
Total win: totally wiping out the opponents army. Points win: At the end of time, the points on your cards that are still ‘alive’ at the end of the game are greater than the points on your opponents cards that are still ‘alive’ at the end of the game. It doesn’t matter how many squad members are dead, as long as one is alive, that card scores at full points. Tie: points are the same at the end of the game.
Players get card upon which they write two up to 500 point armies. Before each new round, before they’re told who their opponent is, they nominate which of the two armies they will use in the next round.
At the start of the tourney, players hand in their cards with the box ticked to say which army they’ll use in round 1.
These cards are shuffled face down, and dealt out ala blackjack into pairs. This is the first tournament pairing.
They are assigned maps randomly each round (yet to figure how this will work, whether we’ll reassign if they play on the same map… we’ll need 8 small maps for 16 players, too.)
When time is called, the order marker that is currently being resolved gets finished, and the game ends.
After each match, players write 3, 2, 1 or 0 in the match points section. They then write the point differential in the next box: the sum of the points on your cards that are still in the game minus the points on your opponents cards that are still in the game. This means that if you lost, you’d have a negative figure in this box. Then put your opponent’s name as it appears on their card, and the (name? number?) of the map you played on.
Then in the section for the next round, indicate which of your two armies you’ll be using, and hand the card in to the organizers.
For the next match, the cards are sorted by ranking, and the top 2 ranked players play each other, and so on down the stack (unless they have already played each other already, in which case the next card above or below the pairing gets substituted in)
So they are sorted, assigned an opponent, checked to see if anyone has already played their newly assigned opponent, reassigned as needed, checked again, repeat as necessary (shouldn’t be), assigned a map, then announced.
This way the better players play each other, taking points off each other, and bringing the others back into the game, all the games after the first round are tighter, and an early loss doesn’t mean tournament over.
After four rounds, the players are ranked by match points. Any ties in match points are broken by point differential. Any ties after this point are broken by rolling a D20 (highest wins).
We then have the option of a knockout finals series for the top 8 (or top half), top 4 or just the top 2 – D20 rolls decide ties.
Or, we could just use the results from the tourney rounds.
8 players: 5:10pm 1st final 5:55pm 10 min break (or 40 min meal break) 6:05pm prelim final (or 6:35pm) 6:50pm 10 min break (or 7:20pm) 7:00pm grand final (or 7:30pm) 7:45pm (or 8:15pm) – prizes
8pm – packup, pizza and beer. (or just beer at 8:30pm)
4 players: 5:10pm prelim final 5:55pm 10 min break (or 40 min meal break) 6:05pm grand final (or 6:35pm) 6:50pm - prizes (or 7:20pm)
7:05pm – packup, pizza and beer. (or just beer at 7:35pm)
2 players: 5:10pm grand final 5:55pm prizes
6:10pm – packup, pizza and beer.
Let me know what else you’d expect, Ash or anyone – you know more about this than I do.
What’s the go afterwards?

Seems like you have it covered. Costing is as follows: Everyone that plays pays $4 for the use of the room. There is no upfront cost for the organiser. Anything you charge over that can be used for other things.

What do you suggest we do about terrain, figures, etc. Some people are going to have heaps, others none - what would I have to bring and how would you organise your kit? Just a list of what you have, or mark everything you own?

P.S.
"I am already too far down the road with WotC to start adding additional qualifying events. If you PMd me and posted here and are Canada or US, you can count on support. I am still working on the Australia event and still working to get the prodcut a bit early for those events that are earlier than 10/16."
I'd suggest that WotC are going to check this thread to see who's going (I've provided the link as requested by the NHSD overall organiser - if you know people are keen, get them to vote on this thread please Ash...

You might want to change the address. St Martins Church will not be available. Youll want to be hosting it at Movie Nights.
