Just recieved my copy today and I must say it is so much better than the first journal. The first journal was great coming as the first publication from Mantic Games but it was very diluted as they had a fair whack of ground to cover.
This journal is bigger by 12 pages and the pages seem thicker and glossier but that could just be cause it is newer when I compare the two.
Issue 2 is Dwarf heavy (issue one focussed on Elves and Undead) and details the dwarfs background, military and of course their various boxed sets. There is also a great looking scenario included aswell as rules for two special characters; Garrek a Dwarf King with a nasty set of equiptment making him a combat fiend and Voitolius the Wraith King who is annoyed by the din of battle outside his tomb.
Mantic contiues their series of articles covering modelling and painting their miniatures and focusses on painting a Skeleton Warrior using the Army Painter Method (my fav method).
In the previous issue Mantic had advertisements for gaming stores and other products and this has changed slightly. This time we get an indepth look at Studio McVey and Hasslefree miniatures. Although I have seen these on the internet it is great to see a nice article presented for these. It really harkens me back to the days of the early White Dwarfs when GW promoted other peoples products and this reminiscence is more that welcome in my opinion.
Mantic has recently bought out a beta set of their rules and that Closed Beta has been completed and with that their first boxed game comes out. Mhorgoths Revenge is a big battle box which includes two full armies.. and these are decent armies, one for the Dwarfs and the other the Undead. A full set of the Mantic Rules are included aswell as bonus Mantic points which you can use to redeem some nice exclusive goodies.
I have ordered this boxed game and eagerly await its arrival to give the almost finished rules a crack(This is now a open Beta copy... Mantic will be changing them over time... but thats cool the rules will be free in battalion sized boxes or bigger and online!)
So whats coming up or Mantic?
Next issue will be containing updated unit stats, an article on basing your miniatures, articles on Sea Elves and a massive three way battle report pitting Elves, Dwarfs and Undead!
I am really looking forward to it!
