ok, got the grid working, this should be pretty easy (but tedious) to do in photoshop now. Anyone with photoshop could go through one square at a time and fill it with one of several colours depending what it is, road, building, park...?
Or perhaps you could just print the whole thing as it is in the right scale and use common sense for what each square is depicted as?

OK, I've increased the actual size of the picture, so that each of the cars you can see is about an inch long, is this right? It seems about right now, and I've added a grid that is in quater inch squares. The file size is a bit much now from the pub to the shops where golo is, and down one block east of the dice and deck (makes it about 5 city blocks) is 22MB just for the JPG and is 285 cm by 260 cm. Hope someone has a friend with a big printer. you can see the cars in the sat photo here, the red grid is 4 squares to the inch, this is the carpark outside woolies liquor.

Ya know, it doesn't need to be a PERFECT map of the town... Have you considered just making the right sized grid, then drawing in a close approximation of the town? In fact, this could work better as far as making the roads a nice size for the counters and the like...
Just a thought, Can't wait to see the finished product, no matter which way you go about it! :-)

well this was easier for me, and I love to play in photoshop. Was pretty simple, save image of renmark, resize so cars are about an inch long, create a grid with 4 squares per inch and overlay it. I spoze in theory if it was printed out as it is one could play on it without any modification, though I'm not familiar with the rules etc, just thought this would be cool and not too hard. One could certainly just use this image as a guide for drawing around the buildings, roads, kerbs, trees etc Though its dead easy now to use the magnetic selection tool to trace around objects with the grid and filling the area with a colour wtith the paint bucket like this

Really all that is needed is the town map in plan form. It has all the buildings drawn on it in plain lines and leaves alot of space to add your own stats to the buildings a la carwars maps.
I was just going to grab a copy of it blow it up (dont need the whole town, just a few of the central blocks) use photoshop to define edges, add in trees and the such, apply the grid from scratch and take it down to visual image designs to get printed out on a poster sized sheet and laminated.
