Greenacre Gamers recorded their first Kings of War game recently and I thought I would tell you how it went.
I have been following the progression of Mantic Games miniatures line and was more than excited when they revealed that they would create a set of rules for their products written by Allesio Cavatore (Ezio Auditore for those at GG). The game was to be a fast turn playable, maximum strategy minimum rules game and I think they have pulled it off very well.
The rules are very simple but still allow you to play a fully featured wargame. Movement, shooting, magic, manouvers, cunning, warmachines, heros, monsters are all present here and done in a way that you will only ever need to remember one table (nerve)
When Mantic revealed their starter set I preordered it right away and in doing so I got a box signed by Allesio. Fairly cool but the great thing is what was inside... over 100 miniatures, dice and rules with which to run it by. The rules come in pamphlet form consisting of 12 pages and these are only the beta.
Meg has taken it upon herself to build and command a mighty Dwarf army and I took control of the undead.. I have well over 200 Mantic undead miniatures but unfortunately only got to use about a 3rd of them; the ones that came in the core box.
The game went rather painless ruleswise with the only time the rules needed reference was when a 'nerve' (morale) roll was called upon and unfortunately I had to make alot.
The end result did not go to my favor. Meg wiped out my entire army and in return I did two wounds to her... two...
I look forward to playing a bigger game soon and hopefully the fact that I'll be able to bring my strength in number (and Revenant Knights) to the table shall turn the tide.
Great game, get into it!
