Game: 001 Date Played: 1/12/10 Stage: Pick Up Game Opponent: Paul Team: Southgate Psychopaths, Chaos Dwarf Result: Lost 0-2 Casualties: Won 6-0 Toss: Won - Kicked Fame: Opponent+1 MVP: Kraw (Linesman) Initial weather roll: Sweltering Heat Kick-offs (in order): Perfect Defence, Riot, Weather Change (Blizzard), Blitz.
After a 15yr break The Under Grubbers returned to the field, sure the rules had changed slightly and they were playing the well credentialed Psychopaths but they were ready as ever, until they saw their opposition.
Well, not the way I would have liked to have make my come back, with a caning, but it was a good learning experience and Paul was a great teacher.
The team started well enough, deciding to kick (Gorgo the Troll must have called the play) and Getting Perfect Defence to line up against what I thought would be his attack. After the usual combat around the line his Bull Centaurs smash through the defence heading towards the End Zone. Thang the Goblin knew he had to get back and assist the blitzers and pulled down his fly goggles as he tugged on the arm of Gorgo the Troll. Gorgo nodded knowingly as he lifted Khang of the ground, and then swollowed him.
The team looking on in horror as the Bull Centaur ran in for a touchdown
The combination of seeing their little buddy eaten and the Heat kept 4 players including the Troll off the field for the Kick off, but even though we didn’t score, neither did the Psychopaths
At the start for the 2nd Half the weather went from the hottest day on record to the coldest as a blizzard set in.
Receiving the kick Vorgak the thrower started to move down field, the Psychopaths came crashing forward as always. Vargak stepped back to throw, spearing the ball into a Hobgoblin who proceeded t run it in for a 2nd TD.
The last Orc surge was stopped well short of scoring and the game ended in a 2 nil loss, though not before Gorgo managed to Kill a Hobgoblin. I think if Paul wasn’t more interested in showing me the game, than winning it could have been a lot worse.
The highlight was that I managed to cause 6 Casualties, 2 by the linesman Kraw and 3 by the Black Orc Vorvadoss.
Thanks again to Paul for taking the time to show and explain the rules.

Game 2 was a bloody affair, with the under Grubbers putting up a fine showing against a bloodthirsty Chaos team. Chaos Warriors did battle with Black Orcs across the line of scrimmage for most of the first half, and things started to swing the way of the Chaos guys when casualties started to build up for the Greenskins. Rather than give up their initiative the Chaos team decided to cage the ball just yards out from scoring and to spend the rest of the first half hunting down the weaker Orc players to hamper the Grubbers' ability to score in the second half. The little gobbo was the #1 target, but his big buddy, the troll did a great job of protecting him and punishing any beastmen who came close enough. As halftime sounded the Under GRubbers were down 1-0 and had only about 8 players available for the second half.
Receiving the kickoff they brought the ball up to the line, engaged the Chaos team in bloody struggle and when the deep defense beastman was lured up to the centre by the opportunity to take out the gobbo, alone on the wing the trap was sprung! The gobbo expertly stayed on his feet and scampered down the field. Meanwhile the Grubber's thrower launched a long bomb well over his head down near the goalline, where the little fellow could pick it up to score on the following turn. Knowing that they could not outrun the little guy the beastmen dodged away from the LOS to surround the sneaky little chap, drastically reducing his ability to escape down to the ball. A short orc turn later the Chaos turned defence into attack as one of the Beastmen dropped back to scoop up the ball and head off to the relatively empty side of the field on the oposite wing.
With their last ditch effort to force a tie catching them out of position and several men down, the Under Grubbers had no options but to fight valiantly against the Chaos Warriors who stood between them and the ball. As time wound down the scoreboard ticked along to 2-0 and the statisticians were chalking the game up as another unfortunate outcome for the Grubbers.

Sounds like it was quite the rough match. How many casualties were there?

Sounds like it was quite the rough match. How many casualties were there? about 6 orcs in dead and injured and 2 KOed in the first half IIRC, the second half was pretty quiet for injuries as I recall.

Game: 002 Kick-offs (in order): (opps didnt record) Weather Change (Fine) Thanks Alex for the game and lesson. You are more than welcome, I really enjoyed the game. We didn't roll on the kickoff table in the first half. Officially it is an optional rule, and I sometimes I skip it when teaching a new player the game.

Game: 003 Date Played: 15/12/10 Stage: Pick Up Game Opponent: Paul Team: Southgate Psychopaths, Chaos Dwarf Result: Lost 0-1 Casualties: Won 1-0 Toss: Lost - Kicked Fame: Self +1 Total Crowd: 27,000 MVP: Kazil (Blitzer) Initial weather roll: Nice Kick-offs (in order): Blitz!, Weather Change (Pouring Rain), Quick Snap!
This was my second game against the Psychopaths, I managed to keep there scoring down, but didn’t get close to scoring. The highlight of the game for me was taking a Bull Centaur out of play Thanks again Paul for the lesson.
Game: 004 Date Played: 22/12/10 Stage: Pre-season 3 Opponent: Alex Team: Pro Elf Result: Lost 0-3 Casualties: Won 6-0 (2 killed) Toss: Lost - Kicked Fame: Self +2 Total Crowd: 19,000 Winnings: 40,000 MVP: Khang (Goblin) Initial weather roll: Nice Kick-offs (in order): Cheering Crowd!, High Kick Weather Change (Nice)
My second game against Alex resulted in another loss. Though the troll did pass the goblin,, who got one square away from scoring before being knocked down and then unjustly sent of for accidentily killing an opponent, a soft penalty if there ever was one. This game I thought I moved the ball a lot better, but Alex was again generous with his advice.
The winning were spent on recruiting another goblin to add modility to the team.

Game: 004 unjustly sent of for accidentily killing an opponent, a soft penalty if there ever was one. LOL! Sneaky bugger, got my eye on him! With a casualty and an MVP he would be due for a skill up...

cool, that should open up the passing game nicely, specially with a second gobbo now on the roster.

Game: 005 Date Played: 29/12/10 Stage: Pre-season 3 Opponent: AddyTeam: Gromril Kazad Inducements: Halfling Master Chef Result: Won 1-0 Casualties: Draw 2-2 Toss: Lost - Received Fame: 0 Total Crowd: 26,000 MVP: Gorgo the Troll Winnings: 70,000 Initial weather roll: Nice Kick-offs (in order): Perfect Defence; High Kick Weather Change (Nice)
The Dwarf Kings head turns, the sound of drums thundering from the deep, quickly followed by the sound of drunken cheering as 13,000 Drunken Under Grubber fans spilled out of the ground. The team having achieved 2 mile stones, a TD and a win.
The cost was light in team terms, 2 players Badly Hurt, but available for the next game, and we managed to give as good as we got. Yet again Khang was unfairly sent off after a nasty little dwarf tried to trip him with his head.
Gorgo the troll was MVP causing 2 casualties and more importantly throwing Khang who ran the ball in for the teams first ever score in turn 2 of the first half. The rest of the match was a brawl in the centre with the ball changing hands a number off time.
Gorgo agained the Guard skill.
Thanks to Addy for the game and the help during it.

looking like a nice strong team, that passing attack is looking good with two catching gobbos and an accurate thrower.
