Well, what i was thinking of doing is making my nids GREEN!
What im going to do is paint the carapace of the nids a darker green, with maybe a camo effect on it (that or just black - dark angels - snot+black) just so they arent too bright.
the under body is going to be obnoxiously bright, starting off with snot green, working up through scorpion green and finishing with rotting flesh as the highlights.
Hooves and claws are going to be done in Yellow, as are the eyes, teeth are going to be tooth coloured, and the tonge of those sticking it out is going to be tentacle pink! just because the colour doesnt get used that often... or at all realy... but yeah, post me your ideas, what you like, and what you dont like here and if anything is what i would call good i might impliment it into the endless swarm!

thats a different scheme, especially with the yellow claws/eyes. the green exoskeleton with with darker green carapace reminds me of turtles ;D have you done a test model yet might be a gd idea methinks. any thoughts on basing. you have plenty of green with splashes of yellow, you're really gonna need a third colour. not including the base. maybe switch the carapace for a maroon colour, red gore etc. but that may make them look like christmas nids lol i know what that colour scheme reminds me of!! in the movie evolution, as barry cartwright is down by the water on the golf course, that alien that bursts out of the water and drags him back!! that how it gonna look, only greener??

Well Nooby, what are you doing during the week? We could always meet up and have a bit of a painting session. Then you can try out your scheme or two. Besides I need to get some stuff painted and some terrain finished (Yes, i know...)

My advice: defiantely a darker colour for the thicker carapace- thats a good idea. I'd suggest you might want to consider toning down the brightness of the colour, choosing one a little more sedate, or mixing the bright green with a little brown to make it more of a natural colour liek you'd see in nature, alternatively a wash might do the same effect. I regret doing my bugs so bright. I think the earthy colours in the 4th ed rulebook are brilliant.
For inspiration flick through a book with insects, crabs, reptiles and such in it. There are lots of bring colours in the animal world but they are usually restricted to particular purposes, like red or orange on a bug is a warning to birds etc not to try to eat it because it has a sting (scientists call this Aposematic colouring). So you could consider doing something cool like having bright colours on your stingers or your weapons etc, or stripes or spots. Nature is a great place to look for inspiration.
post some pics when you've done some paintin'

so I've always thought insects are cool, I studied entomology in undergrad, did my honours thesis on ants and have collect hundreds of species over the years, you've gotta read this article to get some ideas about how increadibly cool and scary insects can be don't read this article if your mummy doesn't like you reading curse words on the internets www.cracked.com/article_15816_5-most-horrifying-bugs-in-world.htmlthis is just the tip of the iceberg here folks! somewhere around 50-200 million different species, and this is just 5 of them in this cool article.

Some of that stuff I had heard of before especially the Bot Fly. That thing is nasty. A while back there was a show on tv called parasites and it had insects very similar to these.
One such worm was from Africa where its eggs lived in the water. People drink the water and the eggs hatch in you. The worm burrows into your flesh, usually ending up in you legs, where it feeds and grows. When its time for them to leave they create the sensation of your flesh burning. The infected persons natural reaction is to run into water to sooth the pain. The worm leaves and the cycle continues.
The most disgusting part of that worm is how they treat it. Every day an infected person (i say infected but really mean host) goes to a medical officer who draws the worm out of the flesh centimetre by centimetre. They have to do it slowly or else it will break and relocate itself. The process is highly painful and can take weeks.
There is an upside to parasites and some have their benefits. A lady was diagnosed with an auto immune system error and her own immune system attacked her own intestinal tract. The cure was a weekly dose of whipworm eggs which the immune system would attack instead of her intestine. After a week she would take a pill to kill the worms (this kept them managable) and she would pass them.
One interesting fact that I came across was since we as a species erradicated such things as worms and other parasites allergies have increased dramatically. Its like our systems have grown bored of not having something to fight so we have exagerrated responses to minor invaders... dust, pollen etc. Asthma is one of the things that has dramatically increased through this.
Oh well, its what we pay for a 'clean' society.

I've heard that the symbol for the medical fraternity is styled on the treatment of such parasites, where they would tempt the parasite to come out of the host, with a tasty morsel of rotting meat or whatever, jam the forked ro to capture the head and rotate it to wind the body up along the shaft and out of the body. Never bothered to check if its BS or not, because its cool just how it is
