OK, So it's been a while since I posted something non GW related :-P If there's anyone interested, Two Hour Wargames has a new Fanzine that's just been released. A Couple of Batreps using THW rules, a couple of articles explaining how the THW mechanics work, one aimed at folks that have never heard of THW, and some extra tidbits for those that play the rules. If you're curious about other rulesets, it's worth a look. downloads.gamingdeluxe.co.uk/thw/InSight_Issue_1.pdfIt's a 15MB PDF download. Yes, I think it's pretty damn heavy too, but it's nicely presented, and some decent articles.

I'll tell you what the whole reaction test mechanics makes this system stand out.... You can't be the type of gamer who walks away from the table when its "not your turn" this system seems to make you sit there through all the nitty gritty cause you may have to act (or react) in "your opponents turn".
I'm liking this alot.
Is the system suitable for games of all sizes or just smaller skirmish games?
I go, You go, #$%*.... indeed.

Is the system suitable for games of all sizes or just smaller skirmish games? This is dependant mostly on how much experience you have with the system, and to a lesser extent, which system you're playing. When you first look at the THW system, it looks like a lot of tables to roll on, and you slow down a little trying to work out which one is needed next. In large games, this would be nightmarishly slow. As you play a few games, you'll realise only a small handful of tables are actually used 'in game', and you'll know them like the back of your hand, things speed up, and you can handle more minis per side. Much like anything else I expect - You really don't want to jump into a massive 10,000pt game for your first 40K game either As for the 'which system you're playing' part - Older sets like 'NUTS!' have individual rolls for each miniature when it comes to reactions. Newer sets like 5150 roll one set of dice for the squad, and apply the same results to each individual in that squad that needs to take the test. This makes it faster for larger battles. Of course you're probably seeing yourself, it's easy to apply that mechanic to NUTS as well for larger games, or the NUTS mechanic to 5150 for smaller games of 5150, and this is encouraged, so long as all players know before the game which way you're doing things. Check out '5150 Big Battle' from www.angelfire.com/az3/twohourwargames/batreps.htm for a game with something like 90 - 100 minis per side of 5150.

Nice one!
Are any of these rules posted in your 'cheap ass games' board? Prefferably free ones to give it a go? Something with zombies in it would be good...
Wait a minute, I can go check it out for myself... "To the cheap and free rules depository!!"

The best of the free sets is 'Chain Reaction 2' - www.angelfire.com/az3/twohourwargames/cr2.htm - I paid for my copy when I first got started in THW! Has a small zombie section in it. Theres a few smaller demo sets at www.angelfire.com/az3/twohourwargames/free.html as well. Or talk to Draconis for a copy of 5150 - He's got a copy.

Which THW system has the most to do with zombies and surviving a zombie plague? CR2, the freebee, has brief mention of Zombies, but 'All Things Zombie' is 'THE' Zombie game. www.angelfire.com/az3/twohourwargames/atz.htmErk... Ed's been tinkering the page again, gotta fix the formatting
