well you know the 40 hour famine, where you get people to sponsor you to not eat and the proceeds go to starving people, well its like that, you get people to sponsor you for growing a mo in november and the money goes to men's health issues like prostate cancer and depresssion.
you either donate (if you are a girl) or grow a mo (if you are a man).

bingo, for we more usually beardy fellows the lack of beard (and accompanying mo) serves as the talking point/ focus etc etc to get peoples attention and make it easy to bring up the subject of getting donations.
