elves are expensive to buy because they are so good, so you usually only start a team with linemen and only one or two skill players like blitzers. Keep your team and use the winning from your game to buy better players. When starting a new team its a good idea to have atleast one reroll, two or three is good for teams who aren't as agile as elves and are morelikely to drop the ball at inconvenient times. The more fan factor you buy at the start of your team the more money you will earn after each game as more of your fans show up to watch you play and increase the gate takings etc This will help your team afford good players. BB isn't like 40k or fantasy where you put in a new selection for each game. the best way to do better is to learn the game by playing it and to improve your team by buying new players and improving the skills of your existing players. After each game you should go through the postmatch sequence to work out if your fan factor went up or down, to buy new players, and give appropriate players skill improvements if they have earned it. This makes a huge difference once your team starts to take shape. Bloodbowl is so much more than just a one off game! So don't worry about it, keep your team and try again. Elves are likely to struggle for their first half dozen games until the team builds to the point where they can afford some of their great players as well as the linemen. BTW Dark Elves are a pretty challenging team to start with! For a beginer I'd recomend Skaven, Orcs, Chaos, Dwarves, Norse, Humans, Chaos Dwarf, High Elf, as some of the easier races to use. I've got a hobgoblin only team that has played 5 games, lost all of them, only ever scored twice and has had a player killed in every game except one!

It takes a few games to understand the subtle tactics of things like assists, tackle zones, dodging and such. You'll pick it up quick if you keep playing or read the rulebooks, its handy if you play someone who knows the game well so they can point out things mentioned above. I'll chuck my teams in the car every time I cove over to the D&D, so anyone can offer a game whenever I'm around.
