Just to show I'm un-biased when it comes to recomending freebees / cheapies - There's actually some FREE Games Workshop games about the place! (Yes, you veterans know this already...)
These games are games thatstopped raking in the big bucks for games workshop, so they offered them for free to try and keep pulling in bucks from the minis weren't as successful as Warhammer and WH40K, so GW have released them free to whoever wants them.
I Cut my wargaming teeth on Necromunda, and still miss its campaign system. Mordheim I heard great things about, but never got to play, and Ash is trying to start up a Blood Bowl league - again, I've heard good things but unfortunatly never played it. There's a few others to, so take a poke around. Remember though, there's no requirement in friendly games to use their minis, even though GW would like you to - Feel free to use minis from other companies, paper minis, or even flat tokens if you need to!
