New Space Hulk version in the works??
Ed Holzman (Bearcat89):
"I had the pleasure of meeting Jervis Johnson a couple of months ago at the Chaos Cup BloodBowl tournament at GW's Midwest US Headquarters "Battle Bunker". I was pleased to find out he is a great guy, and I had a very relaxed and enjoyable conversation with him. After talking a bit about BB and 40K, I brought up the subject of Space Hulk. I told him that I was a member of the Yahoo SH Group and that at times there are still heavy debated views here concerning the game. He got a slight chuckle out of that. I can not remember everything discussed, as all the BB coaches hit the bar afterwards and we were talking about tons of stuff while watching the World Series (US Baseball), drinking, that - and the nice scenery of Hooters waitresses were quite distracting....
Anyway's, here is some scoop I do remember that I wanted to share with the group here.
It seems as though GW knows that the demand and customer base is there. Basically he is pretty sure that there will be a new Space Hulk game released in the not too distant future. He said they will have to work with marketing to figure out how to put this out, as it must be known there will not be regular additional releases for it like the other Specialist Games, and will remain a stand alone game. I asked him about how they could do it reasonably as 5 Terminators now go for $50 so the 10 Terminators alone would go for $100. Then add on Genestealers and board pieces and nobody would be able to afford it. He said they would do it similar to how "Battle For Macragge", less detailed and simpler designed minis, to cut back on total overall costs. He mentioned something like that they were researching and believe that the card tile pieces will be replaced by something else (I'm drawing a blank, but he may have said plastics?). I brought up the subject that I read that the designers of 2nd edition wish that they did put the timed game play for the SM player. He agreed it adds so much to the game and said that they looked into sand timers (fairly costly), but that technology has come way down in price, that it looks like they would use a digital timer - where they could even put sounds in there as time is running out (like a heart beating fast he put it) and another sound when time is up (I'm thinking a death groan would be cool for that). He says that this timer is less of a cost from a supplier than the old sand timer. Towards the end of the conversation I said that would be really cool if they did come out with it, and the impression I got from his reactions is that it is seems that this may go through - and if so fairly soon!
So that's all I have. Who knows with GW's ever changing situation if it will indeed make its way to final production and the shelves of retailers, but I know I'll (and probably everyone here) will be getting it if it does come out."
