you just let off a massive sh!t bomb can of worms mentioning that un-kami=ly piece of hollywood bastardization that has Akira Toriyama doing cirque du solie fu<king acrobatics in his grave! First and foremost...Funny Piccolo jr. even with bad guys (And I stress Piccolo is a bad Guy as this is Dragon ball!) there is comic relief, particularly with Piccolo.
Secondly I come to Chow Yun Fat, cast as the iconic Turtle hermit ,Master Roshi. this is another place the whole idea of Dragon Ball goes out the window, Master Roshis part in this film is looking far too serious a role, they have dropped the Hentai old man routine for a propper Kung Fuu master, they may as well have cast David Carradine!
Anime with this kind of following should not be touched by hollywood with a ten foot extending power pole, as the humour and light heartedness that accompanies the action of the DB series will be out the window because it just wont sell to the mainstream, anime is too often dumbed down (as is the evangelion movie being threatend with) or crappily actioned and sexed up as this is looking! i understand the difficulty of re-adapting something that had previously been adapted per western audiences by funimation but for fu<k sakes !
this film is one journey to the west that should hav turned back miles ago!
and should you choose a luke warm attempt at "but the japanese version was sooo much better" undubbed, unsubbed bit<h and view it from another cultures mindset!

Lol well i havent seen any trailers. But im still hoping Chow yun fat could pull off funny, but it sounds like they well and truly f**ked things over. live action adaptations should only be done in the country of origin. The few ive seen so far have fit this (such as the Initial D movie). As for the whole subbed or english argument... i dont care either way. My problem is that alot of anime series when repackaged for the english market get editied and censored because the mindset in america still seems to be "anime = cartoons = for kids only = we need to censor this shit" so you get stuff like a character smoking a cigarette in the japanese version and sucking a lollipop in the english version WTF? also things where they tone down the blood and violence (which i remember happening in the televised dbz on cartoon network) The voices are irelevant, hell some series i like the english voicing more than the japanese (Trigun) others i hate the english voicing (Love Hina) (yes i own Love Hina, what of it?)
Anyway back to the main point of this topic. Mum tried to talk me into seeing Slumdog Millionaire lol... not a f**king chance. MMMM watchmen in 2 weeks (thats if my f**king cinema gets it on time)

whats wrong with slumdog millionaire? God forbid anyone wants to watch something culturally relevant or of some meaning to the world?
giving a f**k about the voicing in any anime is just something invented by the anime elitists who saw it of knew about it first and therefore are superior in every way, stuff i would expect of wargamer but not this site. sometimes a few voices will shit me ( like bad fake brooklyn accents al la YU GI OH lol and the british one in Sailor moon for Luna ( she sounds like mary poppins) but mostly just because they are bad voice acting in general not just because they are a dub.
i agree that the censorship is not required but remember that many of these animes are in fact based on shonnen jump manga intended for young boys in japan ( lol the one piece reference) and are intended for children, only being that the japanese mindset is not dominated by the overbearing presence of the jeudeo-christian principles ingrained into the psyche that make these edited out things such taboo. lol that same issue is why NGE is gonna suck, all the relgious symbolism is going to be gutted because so many will take offence to a giant humanoid being nailed to a cross spawning babies! 400 rei babies! lol but yeah eva will be raped even if the WETA workshop can make it pretty! Im yet to see the new EVA rebuild film as id like to see them in one big hit and im waiting for spike spencers sultry squeaky teen voice to grace the dub for the role of Shinji lol. apparently it reflects Annos current lifestyle where he no longer wants too off himself and is a rich mother fu<ker! so all in al i look foward to a shiney happy cast as well.
I dont think that the movie adaptation should be produced in the country of origin either, i just feel that more colaboration could be done between the cultures the pay more respect to the original rather than allow the hollywood budget and marketing knowledge to completley alienate original fans from the franchise for the lure of marketing it to an new audience.
a movie i really like lately was Doomsday, the good in this movie was it is diffrent...very much so..knights and damsels and 80's post appocalyptic warzone in the same movie are a rare find.
CJ7 is currently my favourite film, its light hearted and funny but also give a great message about friendship and respect for parents that i think appeals to children and adults. The comedy is slapstick and mostly referenced based to other Stephen Chow films that make it funny for kids and adults.
On the topic of Stephen Chow, im excited for his upcoming version of journey to the west that is roumered to be in the works, it should be pretty good!
lol also hey johnny would you prefer a more wheelchair accessable movie, like the ramp rather than the island!

jeez i know its no bravo boys but if you sat down and watched it you might enjoy it, hell I hate war films and mini series but i enjoyed band of brothers. i also thought i would really like twilight because it wa a vampire movie........that died in the ass now didnt it. i guess what im trying to say is that you cant judge on face value. And as for the "im not going to watch something because it is popular and has impressed critics "it is another elitist thing, "im so great i only watch foreign films and arthouse movies nobody ever likes " ... you seem awfully "hyped up" for the watchmen.............you and every other comic book geek of the internet who jumps on the bandwagon. i hear it a'rollin through town now!

Lol its not elitist, i just get sick of when movies get trumpeted around. John.... when the FU<K did i talk up twilight? My only passing interest was that it had vampires and that was it.
Im not jumping on the bandwagon with watchmen, im pscyed because: yes i am a comic book nerd. Im not watching slumdog because ive seen enough of trailers and preveiws to know its not the sort of movie id enjoy, not because im closeminded. I am not "elitist" far from it, i enjoy idiotic movies as much as i enjoy arthouse shit. I just know what i like. But anyway, this isnt the make dodo watch slumdog thread. However if we wanna turn it into the slam bad vamp movies thread: .... Lost Boys 2 >_>

Oh god.... Lost Boys 2.... Some of it was borderline ok but for the most part.... my god....
It was interesting that Keifer Sutherland's younger brother played the main vampire in that movie as Keifer played David in the first one. Feldman reprises his role as Frog (and the terrible gruff voice). Its a shame that it was such a terrible movie as I was looking forward to it yet knowing it was not going to live up to the original.
Still I do not think it bombed out as much as the planned 'The Goonies' sequel is going to be nor the possible Labyrinth sequel... sigh

Oh god i didnt know about those sequels. Thats just terrible. Curse hollywood and your need to remake and sequel things! Im now curious as to how they do Deadpool in the Wolverine movie. An integral part of his character was that he was continuously breaking the "4th wall" to talk to the reader (due to him being bat shit crazy) so my mate brought it up yesterday wondering whether or not theyll carry it through with the movie or not.

Well I just got home from Watchmen and all i can say is... wow. When i arrived at the cinema i was very less than thrilled about the croud gathered, wasnt quite going to be packed but it was still pretty full and i hate full cinemas due to the enevitable talking patrons, wankers throwing popcorn etc. but there was none of that this time. The entire audience just sat... unmoving... absorbing everything that was beamed into their eyeballs, myself included. People will have varying opinions ofcourse but as for me... this is the best movie ive seen in a long time by a massive margin. f**k off slum dog millionaire, this movie has gotta be the best out this year.
And i swear im not biased because one of the main characters is a ranga >_>

Even though I have not seen watchmen yet (but I plan to) I can safely say they do not fall into the same category to even be rated against each other.
