Ive seen the original Tron numerous times and got the original context n shit of the film. I still think you're just being a pemismistic elitist.

says the man pumping his fist for wolverine smashing up shit? pot calling the kettle black if you ask me...... at least John Mclaine keeps his normal coloured penis in his pants.
besides, the very few non-nerd types who have seen Tron will tell you the first one was crap(to quote the simpsons Homer:"has anyone ever seen that movie tron?" pretty much the rest of the cast replies "NO" lol ), not even independant crap but Disney crap, may as well be a sequel to the Hannah Montana movie.....

Ive seen previews for an astro boy movie lately. Looks good, Nicely animated (although it is CGI *sigh*) and apparently the story will follow the original story and hopefully at the least wont have Osamu Tezuka spinning in his grave. Also Zoron is not listed amongst the characters so it is already open for a sequel.

Wow that stretches my memory a bit. I remember watching the original series and then the new series but i cant for the life of me remember much more than him bashing up evil robots.

lol there was a lot of that but Tezukas ideas about the ideas about technology and the environment should still be evident, hopefully even some of the robot with a soul stuff will be in there...doubt it tho it looks pretty kiddy

Yeah it will probably be the usual watered down shit that almost always results in western remakes. Its like "oh no this a kids movie we cant introduce advanced theological concepts it must be simple and mind numbing for the kiddies!"

yes, this movie is designed for kids, and so was the original 80's Dub.. which contained all the same ideas as the original Manga and the pre-dub animation. Its true , you cant have advanced theological concepts in kid-specific movies, thats like putting quantum physics in the teletubbies. Its just retarded! besides, I have a feeling this movie is more based around the newer series, which is decidedly kiddier than the older ones.
You cant go bagging western remakes of everything either, look at the magnificent seven for instance, its as good a movie as the original seven samurai despite it being changed to fit an american audience.there have been many who far surpassed the original True Lies is better both in its writing, acting and special effects then the original "La totale".12 monkeys is a remake and so is sliding doors.
when theyre done right remakes can be great!i find that many movies fail to be good remakes because many culture specific things get lost in translation, not because the great faceless "Hollywood" came along and ruined it.

You know me, i always make massive sweeping generalised statements. What I meant was that it seems for every excellent and succesful western remake of something theres 10+ terrible ones. Its not exactly good odds.

lol back on topic. i did gripe earlier about entirely CGI animations...but i need to continue. i hate these newer ones with a passion, mainly due to the fact that for the most part they are a great way for studios to make big bucks off of toys and lunch boxes and other kids crap while spending minimal on the production, i mean you can make one of these films on a small room full of computers using a handfull of staff, not a team of animators. they get A and B grade celebritys for cheap, they only have to pay them for an afternoon in the sound studio, and if they can clean it up well enough, one afternoon of phoning it in and they come straight of the production line. i did enjoy the last one i saw monsters versus aliens but it is missing th e wow factor the medium once had and id much rather look at nice artwork ( im waiting for more trad animation from studio ghibli ) than the perfeclty placed shadows and hair that doesnt quite move right of a CGI animation.
well i had my rant, how does everybody else feel lol
