I only just heard a rumour that this was in the works (may even have been released). Now I know thepup is upto date on all THW (Two Hour Wargames) stuff. Any news on this or even a linky?
Let me know all the gory details ;D

Well a lot of the detail is on the Lock n Load page already :-)
I Know it's been in development for some time - I was lucky enough to get a rough copy of the rules a while back - late last year IIRC. I don't know how much has changed in the rules since the copy I got, but it basically plays like the original ATZ, on Hexes, streamlined and simplified a little for board play. I incorporated a number of the boardgame changes into my games when I tried gaming with Haydn, simply because they were easier for him to grasp.
Why a board game? 2 reasons I can think of -
One, if you're short on time it's much faster and takes less space than setting up a table. Starting a game is as simple as laying down the boards and drawing a couple of random player counters for your team. Stats like movement, weapons etc are all printed on the counter for easy reference. If you don't like the counters, there's nothing stopping you using minis in their place and keeping the counter to the side for the stats, though 15mm would probably fit best (I Haven't actually seen the boards, but the counters are 3/4 inch).
Two - Think of your Non-gaming friends.... "Hey, you wanna play a miniatures game" "Is that like toy soldiers? Nah, that's kids stuff"
Or...
"Hey, I've got a new boardgame, zombie hunting" "A boardgame? Zombies? Well... Guess I'll give it a shot"
After a couple of games, replace the counters with minis, then the'll decide the boardgame is limiting them, and you break out the full-blown mini game.
Basically, it's generally easier to introduce non-gamers to gaming through boardgames than it is miniature games. They seem simpler, less intimidating, and 'more grown up' (I Dunno why little paper counters are more grown up than a well painetd mini either...)
I'm hanging out for it because with Haydn being 8, he's still got a limited attention span, and the boardgame will be faster to set up and play than the minis, so we might get a full game in before he gets bored! I Plan on using my 15mm zombies and hunters.
There's also nothing stopping you whipping out the boards, then using the ATZ2 rules with the boards and counters if you're in a hurry and don't want to set up terrain, or if you're traveling. It should work nicely.
They were hoping it'd be out for halloween, but it seems as though it's been held up :-(

So potentially a new gateway game to lure in non gamers... Could be somethingI can use with some of my mates.
I reckon I'll have to grab a copy. I still have not played around with regular ATZ yet but am hankering to give it a go when I have some stuff I need for it. Also been working on my own project that might fall into this genre of gaming... has zombies, survival, potential saving the world.... well at least humanity in the immediate area.

So potentially a new gateway game to lure in non gamers... Well, that's my take anyway - what do you think? I Know a number of people that wouldn't touch a mini game, but are happy to play boardgames, even stuff like 'Railroad tycoon' and the more complex German boardgames. Nice :-) Share when you're ready!

Not sure if you're still tracking the group Ash, but this just in... "Last bits of artwork are arriving so it's off to the printer and the pre-orders are ending." Counters look nice and seeing the items like Scope, vest, baseball bat etc makes it seems like things have changed somewhat since the rules I saw - for the better I'd assume!

Im really liking the idea of the ATZ board game. The components are looking nice indeed. I wonder if it will be distributed in Australia? If not looks like i'll be making some orders abroad soon enough I still really need to play some ATZ. I just need to get a semi decent printer to print out some of the worldworks game terrain I have (I really want to build a nice urban setting) nad maybe ill give a few of onemonks paper minis a crack till I get some cool looking zombie minis.

I Wouldn't count on it Still, with our dollar where it is, I suspect even if it were distributed over here, it'd be cheaper to get it in from US. (I'm looking at replacing a multi-tool, and it's literally half the cost to import it, INCLUDING postage, which is about 35% of the total cost!) I'll be trying to find the $$ in the budget when it's released. You shelled out for some worldworks? How's it look 'in the flesh' so to speak? I've seen some of their older works like Mars station, but not the new urban stuff. Their older stuff looked really good - I stopped building after a couple of models when I realised it wasn't free, and I'd found a dodgy download. I think I've got some onemonk (legally) free paper minis about on my drive somewhere too if you need 'em.
