Cardboard's a bad idea my friend. Very prone to warping. Better off springing for some plasticard. You maybe be able to coat it in superglue or maybe even some type of sealant but I'm not sure. Hope it turns out well, man.

I have much experience with this type of thing. I don't really use enough glue to warp the structure and I have completely reinforced the inside. This is aso just the internal structure that you can see at the moment a sort of template to build over if you will...
Now if I was building a Imperator Titan on the otherhand I will definately use plasticard and harder wearing materials as the structure is much more lithe (thats to come down the line...)
I can finally start more work on this thing now that some other projects are pretty much out of the way!

The paint will also warp the cardboard I believe. Maybe get some Poor Man's Plasticard (For Sale signs) and cut em to size. There quite a bit cheaper than actual plasticard and easy to work with. If you search around you can get em for around a buck (1.25ish AUS methinks) per sheet at DIY stores and Walmart/K-mart.

Yeah, I was thinking of going for plasticard as the material for all the armor plates. I get the stuff pretty much for free as there are some places around here who have plenty of offcuts.

Well I am going to try to get hold of a vacuum cleaner or two for parts, the hoses will make great tubes and conduits and all the extra mech stuff on the inside will be great too!
Plus the actual stem of the handle could be put to good use.

I dreamed of making a Gargant once. Then the Quar bug hit. Then the Weird War. Maybe with the new plastic kit I'll get to it. Heavily converted of course, as is the Deth Skull way...

Well....
Tale of 40K Gamers is just about over (just one bonus month to go) and I have pretty much finished my Mighty Empires Tiles so now I can get back to building this thing!
I have had a few pretty cool ideas on how to make it even cooler and up the points cost too!
Will make a fair bit of progress on it this week and if I can belt it out quick enough we will see two big things being constructed for the imperials!

well....
Its only about 31 days till the Megapocalypse Game. Everyone is getting hyped up. Rules are been molested and armies are amassing!
Yet, still the Gargant has not made it any further...
What I need is someone to donate to me a broken vacuum cleaner. What I really need are the hoses, pipes, cords etc to be used in detailing this monstrocity. I also need all other sorts and sizes of piping, hoses and all other interesting bits. Everything will be considered so if you have something that you can get down to the store that you are willing to part with that would be awesome!
I also still have a bridge to make but that will be a breeze....
Is anyone else bringing anything monstrous to the event?

I havent painted them though cus im lazy, been too busy working and assembling other models.
Probably just use the rough rider profile with space marine stats and still give them exploding lance tips.

Do not worry about bringing all painted models. Everything can be used. There may even be a large contingent of Fantasy Orcs being used as feral Orcs!

I got some work done on the Gargant today!
Have now attached a layer of 5mm foamcore to about 80% of the structure and layed out some more of the details. Tomorrow night I will have completed the foamcore and started on the weapons, piping/tubing and powerplant. Once these details are complete I can start work gluing on random armor panels etc.
I have about 10 days to complete this monster so the heat is really on.
This will really need to be completed as the enemy (Chaos) will be fielding a Warlord Titan!!!!

Of course he will  hopefully.... it would be awesome as there will be a lot of heavy hitters present: 4-6 Baneblades 2 Brass Scorpions Warhound Titan Thingy.... Warlord Titan Thingy Orc Great Gargant Stompa Sharp Sticks..... Anyways need to finish the Gargant, Blakes Stompe (pretty much complete) and a city wall which I have not even started yet... |

Excellent. Looks like we have our first grudge line up Tonight I have finished lining the Gargant with Foam Core. It looks a whole lot better now. Tomorrow will be spent on the start of the details phase with the addition of the powerplant, weapons, platforms and all that cool stuff. Will take a pic but could be a while before I can post it. The stupid computer is not liking photoshop right now which is also the reason for lack of Fantasy Tournament photos... |
